Default So much hair.. so little time to shave...

Okay okay.. SERIOUSLY! I've been going around reading all sorts of post.. but, I believe I've got more hair than any one I know. Arms..Face (Like a MAN!), Belly... Chest... Even a little on my lower back, and my butt.. Oh man.. How I feel just horrible even posting this here, but I'm thinking maybe somewhere... out there... someone can relate! There is someone, right???? Anyway, I can spend an hour just shaving... That's right, just shaving. My legs all the way up to my thigh..Sometimes, I feel like big foot.. I'm the big hairy thing everyone keeps searching for!! HERE I AM!!!

Anyway, it's so depressing....It's nice knowing I can come here and feel like atleast someone understands how I feel.. Because NO ONE I know has this problem.. Besides the ones I talk with online! It's nice to know I'm not alone.

You aren't alone. I have an abundance of hair myself... in all the same areas you have it. It is a pain in the butt. I've quit worrying about all of it except my face and my legs. My husband is very understanding and has never made an issue of it, even when we were dating. But I am very self conscious of it. If I have stubble on my face, I don't let him near me, I don't like him touching my face or chin area at all. And I never, ever let him see me shaving anything but my legs.

Something I used to do in high school and college was dye the hair on my arms and the thinner hairs on my face (upperlip, cheek area) It worked pretty well and lasted a while. I have to shave every day, sometimes twice a day because I feel a little stubble.
It's just something we've got to deal with. Just know you aren't alone.

*hugs*

That's what gets me. I hate it. I pull away too. Even when I have shaved, and I am pretty confident my lover wont notice. I dont like him being around my face at all. This is the true story of pcos. THIS is what it is about, and it breaks my heart for all of us.

Default Me too!

I have many of those days where I don't want to shave- I guess more then anything its the thought that other people can get ready in one hour and it takes me two hours to get ready (I have to shave my neck everyday and that
takes at least half an hour) Plus it means getting up an hour earlier then I would if I didn't have to shave and cover the area with make-up (as the skin on my neck is very dark). I know how you feel.

It is SO good to hear I am not the only woman dealing with this!

I have SERIOUS facial hair (like a man), monkey legs, lots of hair on my arms, tummy, lower back (known in Australia as a "welcome mat") and way more than I need on the "private bits!" Even the tops of my feet - which I HATE, being such a shoe junkie and all.

It takes me ages to shave my legs, I have to do my face EVERY day (twice if I'm going out at night), my armpits are hairy again two days after I shave them, and the rest drives me nuts! I really need to shave my legs every few days, but I do it fortnightly and just lazily wear pants when it gets too monkey on me.

Because I am CHRONICALLY single (and that's partially because I'm terrified a guy would find out about the hair and make fun of me for it) I don't worry about all the bits under my clothes much, and I've never bothered about my arms until recently - when all these people seem to see fit to comment about how hairy my arms are!!

Just knowing there are other girls out there going through the same thing (and I wish I could make it all go away for all of us girls) is really helpful. Just being able to say "I have facial hair, it sucks and I hate it!" to someone OTHER than a doctor is more helpful than you can know.

Thank you all for being so frank and honest and sharing your stories. You've made getting through each day that bit easier for me.

Hugs to my fellow hirsute cysters
Kath

Kath, I understand what your talking about more than you'll ever know.. Everything your talking about, I HAVE TOO!! lol. Dating... oh my.. It was awful, Just thinking about someone else seeing things that I myself couldn't even accept, and look at. Even though I'm married, and DH accepts me for who I am. I STILL don't want to actually talk about it, and It's still hard to let him come near me if i haven't reccently shaved. I'm thinking maybe it's because we haven't been married long? (Only a year 5 months) It's a horrible issue the hair thing, I really think I could deal with this PCOS stuff a lot easier WITHOUT the hair!

With my ex-bf, I used to wake up early, early in the morning, before he would wake up and I would shave my chin and neck area... anything on my face that was stubbly. I was so embarrassed about it. Then I would put concealer and powder on it to help hide the dark hair follicles, and crawl back in bed because I didn't want him to see me with a "shadow".

That was 7 years ago, and thinking back now... he never ever mentioned my hair problem. I'm sure he noticed it... how could he not? But it was never talked about and he never treated me differently because of it. I was so grateful for that. It is nice to know that there are guys out there who can be understanding about medical problems. He was a Navy Corpsman, and was a Surgical Tech. so he was pretty familiar with medical issues.

It's already been said a million times I'm sure, but it's nice to know that we aren't all alone in dealing with crazy things our bodies put us through. I'll just remember as I'm shaving later that there are millons of other women who feel just like I do about having to do this horrible task.

Maybe we can share shaving secrets? LOL Like how to get it baby-butt smooth and hide the dark shadows with makeup and not look like a street-walker?

*hugs to all*
Erin

Please girls - do share tips!! The more the better!

I do have to say that exfoliating works for me. It gets rid of all those dead skin cells, clears clogged pores and ingrown hairs, and I think even brings the hairs up so you can shave them closer. It certainly is smoother when I do exfoliate than when I don't!

Just remember though, you need a milder exfoliant for your face than the one you use on your body. I've got a yummy Avon brown sugar one for my body, and a apricot and cinnamon one for my face.

Any other shaving/makeup tips?

What works for me... A weekly exfoliating mud masque. A good daily cleansing routine with lots of moisturizer. High quality razor and shave creme. And Spiro. (In just over a week, I'm already noticing a difference in the texture and growth rate on the facial hair.)

Now if I could just figure out what to do about the back and tummy...

Shiphrah - can you tell me what Spiro is? I'm in Australia and am not familiar with it. Maybe it has another name here?

Spiro is Spironolactone (generic) or Aldactone (brand name). Does anybody know of a good exfoliator that's available in drug stores? I saw someone mention Avon, but I'd rather not deal with salespeople.

I have to agree with the exfoliating. It is a tremendous help. I personally use St. Ives Apricot Scrub (which you can find in drug stores), they have a sensitive skin version and a medicated version. I love the original and also use it on my elbows, knees and the back of my neck (dark, dry patch). Also, Noxema has a new exfoliating scrub that I like too. I just love the smell of Noxema products. Reminds me of when I was little, my grandmother used it all the time... for EVERYTHING.

The best razors I've found thus far have been the Mach 3 razors. I think they are expensive, but well worth the results. I haven't yet broken down and bought the Quatro razors, but I probably will eventually. For me, razors designed for women don't shave close enough on my face. I'm happy to use them for my legs and underarms, but why buy 2 different razors? My hubby and I use the same brand. I have found that you can buy the replacement blades for the Mach 3 on eBay and they aren't too expensive and you can really stock up. I change my blades about every 5 days, depending on how much I've used it.

Oh, I almost forgot! Another thing I've found is that if you use baby lotion or Vasaline Intensive Care lotion instead of shaving gel or cream it works well. And you get the double duty of a moisturizer. I've used hair conditioner too. If you really like shaving gel/cream and don't want to try lotion, Aveeno has a good gel. They have with one soy protein to help the hairs grow back finer. It does take a little while to start seeing results, but I noticed a big difference in how smooth my face was after the first use. They also have a lotion that does the same thing.

Ok, I think that's all my tips for now. If I think of others, I'll post them!

:p
