Default So now my OB wants me on progesterone supplements

After my appt on Tues in which my OB told me she feels very strongly that I am having a m/c due to no cardiac activity, I had a blood test which she compared to one I took about three weeks ago to confirm the pg. She wanted to see if the #s were going up or down or what. The numbers are higher (beta) now but the progesterone is low and she wants me on supplements till I see her next week. I guess this is JUST IN CASE we seriously mis-estimated the age of the fetus? (and when I told my poor DH, he was seriously confused about what's going on) Well, I have to give her credit for hope, I guess, and of course I will do it even though I've been digging around online and the general consensus seems to be that low progesterone levels are a SIGN of miscarriage, not a CAUSE. Docs still give supplements tho. Anyone been on these things? What can I expect to feel or go through? I already feel like crap - I just hope it doesn't get worse (or, heaven forbid, bring on a serious depression, which is my usual response to hormones - I am managing my mood just barely as it is right now)

That's a tough one. If I were you, I'd probably go with what the doctor says "just in case." But the argument can be made that the progesterone would just drag out the inevitable. When you said your beta numbers were still high, what were they? Are they higher than last time?

From what I've read, for supplements to really work, you should be on them starting at 3 dpo. You should talk to your doctor about getting on the supplements much earlier next time.

I'm so sorry you're going through this

Hi there,
I had a m/c in Sept and another a coulpe of weeks ago. My Doctor said when I go back to see him he's putting me on baby aspirin. And as soon as I am pregnant he will put me on progesterone. Can anyone clue me in as to what these do and when I should be taking them. My first m/c was a blighted ovum and the last they said the baby stopped growing at 6 wks. When I asked him he said it wasn't the same thing so it was good that we weren't seeing a pattern. But I did have 2 in a row. Doesn't that say pattern? I do have a almost 3 yr old son. Any info would be appreciated. Also I don't know all the short hand or lingo. I read in this message dpo - what does that mean. Is there a place on this site "Shorthand for Dummies"? (ha ha)
