Default So oily!

I don't have that many full blown zits. Its just like my face is oozing sebum. I have tiny bumps all over my face and if I squeeze them oil comes out but I try not to because that's what causes it to get infected and become a zit. I use acne treatments but I feel like my problem is the amount of sebum I'm kicking out. I'm soooo oily! Anybody else this way too?

My face is extrememly oily too. I wash it up to 3 times a day. It's gotten somewhat better than it used to be since I got the testosterone under control with Spironolactone. Are you taking any meds for that? Or have you had it tested? I don't think there is anything else they can do for the oily skin, just the treatment to stop the zits from forming b/c of it. I've heard that Accutane stops the oil production completely, so you may look into that- but I also heard it's very dangerous...so be careful!! Anyway if you find some magical cure for it let me in on it b/c I'm right here w/ ya!

Thumbs up

I'm supposed to go to see a reproductive endo. in a few weeks. We are ttc. Wonder if he would have any advice for acne. I've heard vit b5 can help. Might try that. Thanks for reading and writing back

It may sound absolutely INSANE but I was told to fight oil with oil. Do NOT use harsh exfoliating stuff on your face apparently because while it strips the oil off of your face, it also causes MORE oil to overproduce. Someone said to try using primrose, lavendar or even OLIVE oil on my face to combat it. This came from a woman with REALLY oily skin too. I haven't tried it yet, but really seems to work for her! who knew?

Try a good deep cleanser thats gentle alcohol and oil free like Aveeno positively radiant.. benzoyl peroxide the acne medicine can dry the skin and kill bacteria, and a mattifier, http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.a...&productid=822 You can also try Retin-a (prescription)

I also have been dealing with extremely oily skin, to the point where I was carrying fast food napkins with me to soak it all up...several times per day. It was so bad that sometimes it would soak through the napkin! Gross huh?

Two weeks ago, I was put on 50mg twice a day of Spironolactone and I have already seen a difference. I am so pleased with it....I know some people have success with it and some don't, but I encourage anyone who hasn't tried it to give it a shot (unless you are TTC...it's something you need to either take with BCP's or not be sexually active because it can adversely affect male fetuses....)

I used to be able to go barely an hour after my shower without blotting, and today I went five to six hours with only a minimal blot! I was thrilled!

Good luck to all my oily sisters! I know how you feel!

Hi
I too have had terrible problems with oily skin, having to blot my nose and forehead frequently, to avoid looking like I'd just walked out of an oil slick. I've used (almost) every product under the sun to try and treat the problem, to no, or very little, avail. But now my skin had started to become very very dry in areas as well, I think because of metformin, or my other meds (hypertension and BCP), but anyway, it has driven me crazy having the combination skin to beat all combination skins!
Anyway...I know it's more expensive than many of the cleansers you've been talking about, but I started using Clinique products about 2 months ago, and I have noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. I still have dry patches, which I have to work on, I guess with another moisturiser, but my skin has never been so smooth and seemingly balanced, and people are telling me all the time that I have such a healthy glow - no one has EVER said that to me before. So I know it's not for everyone, and it does cost a bit more than regular stuff to buy, but it seems to really make a difference at least in balancing the oil
Good luck to everyone - I hope something works, whatever it may be!

several products - I use the mild cleansing bar, followed by #2 clarifying lotion, and then the dramatically different moisturising lotion. I also use the rinse off foaming cleanser before the cleansing bar when i've got make up on, which really gets it all off, and the 7 day scrub is a very mild exfoliator. But there are lots of products for different skin types - you'd need to speak to one of their consultants to get the right stuff for you if you decided to go ahead with it. I was highly skeptical when I went to the Clinique counter, but my mother convinced me to give it a go, and I have not looked back since. I also use their acne spot healing gel which contains salicylic acid and is fairly effective. They do have an acne range, and many products for minimising and refining pores, plus controlling t-zone shine. I've not tried their pore fixing products yet as while each product isn't a bank breaker, it's also not dirt cheap, so I'm slowly working through what I need.
I still have a blackhead problem, which supposedly will lessen in time by using these products...but even if the blackheads remain, at least I've managed to mostly balance my skin. You can get trial/travel size versions of many of their products, so if you don't want to jump in the deep end like I did, that's a good way to try it out
