Hi all! I have been going thru medical hell the past 15 years, & FINALLY I've found out what the problem is: PCOS. No thanks to any doctor tho!
Really, for over a decade I've been complaining to my gynecologist because of excruciating pelvic pain (especially when aroused) to the point of being incapacitated by it. Needless to say, it destroyed my sex life & my marriage. Also I would have a full beard if I didn't tweeze every other day (yes, I've been using Vaniqa since 00, & before Vaniqa I had to tweeze daily, so I suppose it helps a bit). other symptoms are my ANNUAL period (yep, once a year), & hypoglycemic crashes every afternoon.
Every gynecologist has run ultrasounds (which told me I had a retroverted uterus); they've told me I had cysts on my ovaries but NONE of them mentioned the possibility of PCOS; they all just said 'well maybe your retroversion is causing the pain & period problems'. But I'm watching TV tonite & a woman on a British show who also has a beard mentions she has polycystic ovary syndrome. "Hmm, what's that?" thinks I, "maybe I should google it". Once I did, I discovered that MUST be what's been causing all these problems all my adult life.
So, apologies for ranting; I hope you'll understand how frustrating it's been. Thanks for being here, & I hope to visit regularly to learn more about what I can do to alleviate some of the symptoms (pain especially: it's really destroyed my life). Thank you all!

dagny - I am so relieved for you. Now you can concentrate on taking proactive steps instead of worrying that it may all be in your head. you can now arm yourself with info and find support - like you have done here! I think knowing is way better because you can stock up on books and ads and feel like you have some element of control!

Welcome! Sorry to hear about all your difficulties. I highly suggest seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. They can give you an official diagnosis and get you started on treatment. Sadly, the facial hair thing is one of the most difficult symptoms to treat. I wish I knew of a better way than plucking or waxing. The best treatment is exercise, a low carb diet, and getting on an insulin sensitizing med such as metformin. Good luck and keep us updated.

Dx-2004 while ttc #2
Currently: 2000mg metformin
Not officially ttc, but not preventing!
Thank you all for your warm welcome! Cyclingal, you are EXACTLY right: I DID think much of it was in my head, esp. the pain!! Since the docs could never pinpoint what was causing it, I was starting to think that I must've had something sexually traumatic happen to me before I could remember, but now I know it has a physical cause. Not to be a bore, but when I talk about pelvic pain, I am talking so severe that it doubles me over for 30 minutes at a time, vomiting & pouring sweat. Can't walk when it hits, I can only crawl to the bathroom & curl into a fetal position. Sort of ruins those romantic moments, as you can expect!
I do have a number of other symptoms including the breakouts & carrying weight around my belly, but it's always been the pain & facial hair that have been the most troublesome. I am DEFINITELY going to be following the Roadmap as I am starting a new life beginning April 30; I just went thru a divorce, & on Monday I am moving to Europe to begin a new chapter in my life there. So it's a perfect time to change my diet, etc!
Dagny, I totally hear you on the romantic moments. I am going to be married in August and I would love to hear how other women have learned to feel sexy again and trust that your body is not going to crap out on you. I have a very honest, supportive relationship with my honey and we are crazy about each other but in no way feel like the maven I did before all these things hit four years ago.
As for the life changes you are enduring - I wish you all the best. It can be really challenging taking care of yourself when major stressors hit. Ironically, that is exactly when you should be the most diligent. Be selfish for a while and do what you need to for you.
