Default So, what's a "molar pregnancy"?

So, not only am I having a m/c but now the doc thinks it's a molar pg based on the u/s and wants me to have a d&c relatively soon. She didn't make it sound like a terrible thing, but then I looked online and found out that this is actually considered a medical emergency - something about the potential for cancerous tissue etc. YIKES! this might be one of those times when too much online access is actually a bad thing. Did I need to know that? Anyway, we are scheduling a d&c but I'd like more info about the molar thing - from someone calm and rational!!!

I'm so sorry this is happening to you

From what I've read, they make you wait a year before trying again.

BUT you have not been officially diagnosed with that yet, so try not to panic too much. Your doctor is aware and looking into it, so I'm sure *you'll* be okay, physically anyway.

Big hugs, and I hope that the wait isn't too agonizing.

Default How do you get officially diagnosed with a molar pg?

So confusing . . . not that it matters, really, b/c the d&c is a given at this point (partly so they can do genetic testing also), but I'm curious.

My best friend had a molar pregnancy and had to have a D&C. She got PG 10 mths later and now has a healthy 2 week old son. Don't get too freaked out. Most aren't as bad as the net makes them seem. My friend didn't have any problems with hers other than alot of blood lost during the D&C.

I will be praying for you. (((((Hugs)))))

I think you will know for sure after they analyze the tissue.

My cousin had a partial-molar last year. She had a d&c and was told it was essential to make sure all the tissue etc was removed as any left over tissue is what may continue to grow and become cancerous. You are very fortunate that you were tentatively diagnosed prior to the d&c, as your doc will be extra careful to get it all out. These do carry with them the potential to be serious, but are more so serious when you are not receiving adequate medical care. They will moniter your hcg levels until they return to 0 and will likely advize you to not get pregnant til your hcg has been at 0 for 3months.
You will be fine, you continue to research on your own if you want and discuss what you find with your doc.
Let us know how you are doing!
Take care.
