So after three consecutive testing for cortisol, my doc calls up and tells me to make an appointment with her because my cortisol is through the roof. Could I have been right all along and my shedding is due to stress and fatigue and not PCOS symptoms as I've been so incessantly told? Hmm...we'll see.
Has your dr. mentioned cushings? I was tested for that because my cortisol was through the roof too. I'm actually still in the process of because I did one test and it came out high. The second time it was normal. The third time it was high again. But Cushings can be confused with PCOS because it has a lot of the same symptoms. Go to www.cushings-help.com for more info. And if your dr. hasn't mentioned it, ask about it. Might as well cover all your bases.
Uh, huh, I'm aware of Cushing's...Lol! As a matter of fact, I'm too well aware of a lot of things. I need to ask about thyroid and adrenal fatigue.I've been incessantly reading too much of this stuff. It's dominating my existance!!! Lol!
I'm back from the doctor's in tears. I am just constantly sick of all of this testing. I left with another script for another cortisol DHEAS testing blood draw. She says that now reconsidering it, I could have been right about my PCOS being benign in regards to my hair loss since I've had this all along and it never affected my scalp before. The added stress in school really killed me. (BTW: I realized I never mentioned my age if it makes a difference. I am 23)
My T is still high despite being on oral contraceptives and I tested negative for any autoimmune disorder. My cortisol however is almost 4x's the normal amount!!!!! She looked at me and she was serious about finding what the underlying issue of where this cortisol is coming from. She mentioned the pituitary glands and said she cannot absolutely prescribe me anything until those tests are in.
Does anyone know if antibiotic for acne can affect your cortisol levels or have any contraindications with dexamethasone tablets? I am supposed to take the dexamethasone 4 times in a day for 2 consecutive days and then on the third day have my morning cortisol DHEAS blood draw. I've done it before when I had another cortisol blood draw and I happened to notice how I THOUGHT I had shedded more hairs on that particular week I did the dexamethasone. I don't know if I imagined it however. I asked my doc and she said this couldn't have done that.
I know I have been under a huge amount of stress over the past year and a half--DH was deployed to Afghanistan for a year, I am a SAHM to 3 dc under the ae of6....it was a great year, let me tell you. He's home now, but getting readjusted is a whole nother ball of stresses...
School could be helping to push yours higher. I don't have any advice whatsoever on the meds/hairloss/cortisol levels issue...but I'd be glad that the dr was making sure that they had the right diagnosis, rather than jumping to a conclusion.....only to find out years later it was wrong. Betetr to identify the problem now, iykwim.
I wish I had been diagnosed before my oldest dd was conceived (that would hae been 7+years ago now). 7yrs of not knowing....
