Default somebody clue me in....

the doctor told us very little about miscarriage and what to expect. She just talked about tests and going to my regular doctor on Monday.

What can I expect now? How much bleeding? for how long? What should my discharge look like?

I am not passing large pieces of anything, just mucousy looking stuff and a few clots about the size of my pinky finger or smaller. Is all this normal? I also am having bleeding w/out clots or mucous, just bleeding like a regular period. Does the abscence of large clots mean I am not passing out the debris?

I do not want to have a D&C. When is it neccessary? How long will I bleed?

I don't feel bad physically other than some cramping. Is this normal?

Please give me advice!

Oh no! I am sorry you are miscarrying.

The answer to your questions depends on how far along you were and/or how high your betas got or what all developed.... and/or how willing your body is to accept the loss has happened.

I have had 3 losses - never had a D&C but perhaps should have for my 3rd loss.

1st loss was a blighted ovum at 6-7 weeks... betas got to 12,000something... there was a sac but nothing developing inside... I took cytotec to induce the loss and passed the sac the next day, I believe. Then I bled like a heavy period for a week and then lighter for maybe 4 days. Cramping wasn't too bad.

2nd loss was a chemical - period just came a few days late, nothing remarkable.

3rd loss was around 8 weeks... had a heartbeat but it stopped... took three doses of cytotec... lots of bleeding, some cramping... never saw sac pass but passed what I think was a placenta finally 3 weeks or so later... continued bleeding off and on for months... passed a baseball sized clot about 3 months later... bleeding finally wrapped up. Hideous.

Hopefully yours will be easy, physically. Cytotec is a good option if you want to avoid a D&C but the further along you are the less well it works, I think.

Again I am sorry for your loss.

eta as for not feeling too bad - I have read of women complaining like they were dying when they were having super, super early or chemical miscarriages... but personally mine were never that bad, no worse than a moderately bad period at their worst... I was given vicoden for 2 of them but really didn't need it.

Runnerduck, by estimates and hcg levels, I was only a little over 4 weeks. I am just wondering what I should be passing? Like I said, nothing big, but maybe big isn't neccessary?

KITTY- YOU HAVE MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY. I AM SO SORRY THIS HAPPENED TO YOU. KITTY MY FIRST PREGNANCY ENDED IN A MISCARRIAGE. I WAS 7 WEEKS. i STARTED BLEEDING ON 6/30/07 AND CONTINUED TO BLEED UNTIL 7/15/07. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT WAS VERY LIGHT BLEEDING WITH NO CRAMPS AT ALL. I DID PASS A HUGE CLOT THE SIZE OF A 50 CENT PIECE ON THE 15TH AND THEN THE BLEEDING WAS DONE. IN MY HONEST OPINION. JUST LIKE EVERY PREGNANACY IS DIFFERENT, SO IS EVERY MISCARRIAGE. YOU'RE JUST GONNA HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT YOUR BODY DECIDES TO DO.

Hmmm... well if you are just over 4 weeks... you *might* not see anything. You almost certainly won't need a D&C. I think HCG has to be over 1000 for a sac to be visable on ultrasound so depending on how near to that you are, you may or may not see a sac. You might only have bleeding, though. Likely they will monitor via ultrasound and blood levels.

I'm so sorry for your loss!!

I agree with runnerduck, usually if your body starts the m/c process on it's own you likely won't need a d&c. My first loss I started brown spotting at 5 wks, u/s at 5 wks 1 day showed nothing, and my hcg was only at 200 something, it went up to 315 or so 3 days later, and by 6 wks I started bleeding heavy dark red. I bled for 10 days, then stopped for 6, then af came. I have really whacky cycles. Anyways i didn't notice any real "clots", just little bits of tissue.

My second m/c I had a heartbeat at 6 wks 4 days. Went to my ob for my first appt at 9 wks 2 days and no heartbeat. Baby measured about 7 wks. So my body was apparently NOT going to m/c on it's own this time. I had a d&c the next day.

As mommywestern said, every person and m/c is different, as early as you are tho I think as long as you watch your hcg level drop thru blood tests, any bleeding you have will be "normal", whatever that is!

I passed a clump the size of a golf ball today. It didn't hurt at all, just slid right out and somehow I just felt so much better after it was out. I also went to the hospital to give a blood sample and they will send the results to my dr. tomorrow.

Sorry for your loss.

I have had 5 losses, 1 missed miscarriage, 2 blighted ovum's, 1 2nd tri loss, and 1 unexplained miscarriage and each one was different. I had a d&c 2 times. No miscarriage is the same.

Mine went from severe cramping/contractions , bleeding, heavy clotting (size of oranges), to very light (not even needing a pad) and no discomfort what so ever. My bleeding however was never less than 1 week and up to 3 weeks.

From what your describing, I don't think you will need a d&c.

I am so sorry kitty!! ((hugs)) I had a loss at about 4-5 weeks and never had any really large clots. I bled for over a week, but it was like having a really heavy period. The only thing the doctor did do was scan me after the bleeding subsided to check that I had not retained anything. But, like everyone said I suppose on how your body deals with it.

One more question....I called the doctor's office and they said my "numbers were going down". The doctor didn't ask to see me or do more blood work or anything. Is this normal? I am doing fine as far as I can tell. I have no fever or nausea or chills. I am still kinda tired. I bleed some, but sometimes I ahve no bleeding at all for a few hours. I am the same way when I have a period.

I also need to know, can I carry a baby to term with endometriosis?

Kitty,
I am so sorry for your loss. I myself am waiting for my m/c to begin. My numbers began falling over the weekend so now I wait for the bleeding to begin. I am hoping that it starts sooner rather than later. Not sure what to expect since my numbers never got over 104 - very low.

As far as your concern about the endometriosis, it shouldn't keep you from carrying a baby to term. I found this by doing a Google search -

Although endometriosis can cause scar tissue that can make it difficult for some women to conceive, others have full-term, healthy pregnancies, the American Pregnancy Association says. Proactive treatments have been successful in helping some women with endometriosis to become pregnant.

Lots of ((((hugs)))) for you.

Kitty you can absolutely carry a baby to term, I have several friends with endo, one with twins from IVF and one a singleton on a break waiting to start IVF. I'm not saying IVF is your only option either, my friends just happened to be at that stage already.

Are you seeing a specialist (reproductive endocrinologist)?? If you aren't, and you have one you can get to, I'd recommend making at least an initial appt with them. They can answer your questions and give you some insight as to what to expect. I know there are tests/bloodwork that can be done to see how bad your endo is. My friend who had her baby right before IVF did a treatment of something that put her into menopause for 6 months, then she went right onto birth control until they were ready to try again. Both of those kept her endo at bay and they conceived the first month off of bcp's.

So there's IS hope, it's just finding the right treatment plan that works for you!

This probably wont help much but my mother had bad endometriosis and even had to get surgery for it. It was so bad that it was causing infertility. But a few months later she had me! So women with endo can totally get prego and carry to term
