Default Sorry For So Many Questions On My First Posting ...

Since coming off the pill after 10 years, my husband and I decided to start trying for a baby, but after 8 months (during this time my periods became further and further apart), and many pregnancy tests later we decided I should see my doctor. My doctor sent me to the fertility clinic at my local hospital, and after having blood tests and an internal ultrasound scan I had it confirmed last Thursday that I have PCOS, and a slightly underactive thyroid.

When the ultrasound was done I was on day 45 of my cycle, and was told I had the typical "pearl necklace" effect, and that my follicles were only 5mm, when at this stage in my cycle they should be 2cm. Can anyone tell me if this is a normal size for someone with PCOS?

Also, I have been put on Provera to bring on my period which I take the last of 7 days tablets tomorrow, I then have to wait for the 2nd day of my period to start then I begin 5 days of taking Clomid, at which point I have to phone the hospital and book another scan for 12 days time. Can anyone tell me how long roughly it normally takes to start your period once you have finished taking Provera?

Also my husband and I were told NOT to have unprotected sex until they get the dosage of Clomid correct. Has anyone else had to do this and if so, has it taken long to get the dosage correct?

Sorry for so many questions on my first posting!!!

Welcome!

Sorry that I can't answer most of your questions but I thought I'd give you a bump so maybe you can find someone who can.

When I took clomid I was not monitored like it sounds like you are being, my regular ob/gyn gave it to me, and we were not given restrictions on BDing. I am assuming it could be to make sure you are not over stimulated. I'm not as familar with that so maybe someone else can tell you better.

Hope someone can give you the answers you need. Good luck and I'll send you double babydust!

Welcome to SC!!!

I highly recommend reading the stickys at the top of the forum. I have the typical pearls as well.

As far as the protected sex, I believe it's probably just to get AF going and to make sure you respond to clomid. I was told to not have unprotected sex while on Provera, but was ok while on clomid.

HTH.

Welcome to SC! The string of pearls and everything else seems pretty normal PCOS to me. I usually get my period about 4 days after my last provera pill. I've never heard of not having unprotect sex. That's a new one for me. One thing that I'd recommend is charting your morning temps. Clomid was sucessful for me in part because I charted my temps and knew exactly how my cycle was working. I knew exactly when I was supposed to ovulate. www.fertilityfriend.com is a great site with lots of info about charting.

Good Luck!

The string of pearls is very typical of us PCOS ladies.

With Provera, I usually start AF 3 days after my last pill. As you can see, though, from previous posters it really depends on the person.

And no, I have never heard of having to abstain from sex until they get the Clomid dose correct. Did your doctor say why exactly? Seems like you could be wasting good opportunities to me. Also, Clomid does not produce very fun side effects...why go through all that and not be able to try at least? My doctor would only let me try Clomid for 6 months because of risks so I would hate to have to waste some of those attempts.

I would ask for further clarification on that, definitely!

Good luck!

Welcome to the board, sorry about the PCOS. You might try reposting this in the TTC (trying to conceive) forum, to get more answers.
