Sorry if this is TMI. I wear tampons when I'm at work because I'm often busy and don't have time to change a pad and I'm afraid I'm going to leak all over. Anyway, it hurts when I put the tampon on in and when I pull it out. But, only when I use regular or super ones, not when I use lite ones. I bought some slim fit tampons thinking that maybe I could use those, but it still hurt. Is something wrong with me? I'm not a virgin, but then I haven't had sex in 7 years, so maybe I'm not streched enough down there?
Heather,
If it hurts then I would think that you are using a tampon that is too "big"/absorbant for your needs.
Earlier this year I switched to a menstrual cup (mine is the Diva cup, but there are others out there). I highly recommend them. You can wear it for up to 12 hours a day (on heavy flow days I empty mine after 6-8 hours), they are reusable, and I don't feel it at all when it is in. I haven't had one leak since I switched to the Diva cup.
since the birth of my son 4 years ago i havent been able to wear tampons either! it hurts going in and out! no matter what size tampon! so who knows! mine af's arent to bad and i work from home so it is okay with me to wear a pad!

Have you had your oestrogen levels checked? If your oestrogen is low, it can lead to vaginal dryness and thinning of the vaginal wall, which can make inserting a tampon (or anything else) painful.

Sorry if this is tmi but is the tampon fully soaked when u take it out? sometimes it can hurt when u try to take it out if some areas are still white which means ur using a higher absorbency than u need. As for putting it in,sounds like vaginal dryness but could be lots of things. took me ages to figure out how to use a tampon but now i have its easier.shame i dont get to use them often! x

Have you tried Tampax Pearl?? I have the worst time getting regular ones in, but the Pearl regular ones are no problem. You should definitely try them -- they are a little more expensive but it's worth it not to be uncomfortable!

Just an idea to throw into the bag and please do not freak out by me suggesting this but it may be worth checking out;
I have a septum in my uterus which splits my uterus, cervix and vagina down the middle - like a wall....this causes me to have difficulty wearing tampons comfortably and also sometimes suring sex - in certain positions...Appatently its an abnormality that you are born with and all it is is when you are forming in the uterus of your mother the two parts which form your uterus/cervix etc do not fuse properly, leaving a thin lining in the middle.
In some patients the 'wall' does not pass all the way from top to bottem, but the more serious problems (apart from the uncomfortable pain) is that you are at higher risk of a misscarriage - if a fertilized egg implanted onto the 'wall' instead of the lining of the womb, it would not have a blood supply.
I am proberly totally wrong and it is probably just dryness as other cysters have already mentioned - but its worth knowing about the less known possibilities
