It's finally here - YOGA WEEK! With all of this working out, now that we're nearly at our halfway point, we simply can't forget important components of fitness: flexibility and relaxation.
YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK: To do at least 60 minutes of YOGA. Each session must be at least 10 minutes to count, and you have to do yoga on at least 3 days this week. (Not PILATES - but YOGA)
(Your lower body and core requirements are now reduced to 20 minutes each, however, I'd encourage you to do more!)
But back to yoga...
To get you in the yoga mood, here's a flash from the past: Madonna's "Shanti" (Remember when she got that killer body doing astanga yoga??)
Just a reminder about the original BOOT CAMP rules:
This bootcamp is a personal challenge to get fit and eat better. If you lose weight? Great, but that's not the goal.
Speaking of goals, here they are again:
- Workout 5 to 6 days per week for at least 60 minutes per day, for a 90-day period.
So to meet GOAL for the week, you MUST workout at LEAST 5 days during the week, and for at LEAST 60 minutes. (The only exception to this rule is ILLNESS...not SORENESS.)
If you like, you can split your workout up to 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night (or 20/40 or 40/20).
You CANNOT 'carry over' minutes (For instance, if you workout 90 minutes on Monday, you can't workout for 30 minutes on Tuesday with the though, "well I 'banked' 30 extra minutes yesterday.") (The only exception to this rule is if you have to travel for business...you can carry over.)
The only minutes that count are CARDIO and STRENGTH minutes. Pilates and yoga minutes will be considered 'bonus' minutes, but they don't count toward your required 30 minutes. (Why?!?! Because this is bootcamp, ladies. BOOTCAMP!)
- You must include a balanced amount of Cardio and STRENGTH. At least 25% of your minutes must be strength focused, and you can only count FIVE minutes of ab work per day (so if you do 30 minutes of abs, on FIVE satisfy your strenght goal, and it counts nothing towards cardio)
- From Saturday-Sunday, you MUST eat at LEAST 3 servings of vegetables each day.
- Keep a 90-day calendar and log your workouts. This will help keep you motivated (trust me).
Each day after your workouts, jot down what you did.
Also, if/when you weigh yourself in the mornings, jot this down (you'll start to see how your weight fluctuates in relation to certain types of workouts, meals, pms, etc...).
Also write down whether the workout was easy or hard...that way you'll know when to crank up the intensity.
In addition, take all of your measurements today (with a tape measure), and put this on your calendar. Measure again, every 3 weeks - if you're keeping up with bootcamp, you'll notice major changes every 3 weeks.
I'm here! Still feeling stiff in the thigh area. Yoga should be just what I need.....a good stretching. I've asked my DH 2-3 times to stretch my legs today. Just finished a 75 minute power walk which helped. I went to the library today and got a DVD on Yoga. Off to do it right now.

Yay, me!
I discovered that the key for me is going to be an AM workout. Getting that walk in this morning is the only way I was able to get in all that time this evening. Thanks to the heat and humidity of the Alabama summer, 5:30am is also probably the best time of day to walk outside.

I find yoga really hard to do, but I'm gonna give it a try!
The Crunch: Candlelight Yoga was stretching and relaxation. Downward facing dog was the only pose that used strength. It's available on Netflix for instant viewing. It went by really quickly and felt great. I'm going to try the 10 Minute Solutions one tomorrow. It's also available for instant viewing on Netflix.

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers participating in bootcamp!
So today was another rest day. By the time i got home from church and a birthday party all i wanted to do was curl up in bed with my BF and watch a movie. BUt i''m super excited b/c i finally got Shred! You ladies have been raving about it for weeks so i'm excited to try it out after the Laker game. Oh and my BF also got the P90x dvds. Which ones do you ladies like to do for those of you that do them? I know they have a yoga one so i might check that one out. I know they are supposed to be pretty tough but i'll give them a try.
Alright i hope that everyone had a successful week five!

60 mins workout yesterday but I didn't do Yoga. I'm going to start today. I've never done it before...let's see.
Is Power Yoga the same thing?
Yes, Power Yoga is a form of yoga (but it can be really hard).

I agree with PBLayzod that Crunch: CandleLight Yoga is really nice and relaxing. I have a VHS copy of Leslie Sansone's Walk Yoga (it's 15 minutes of walking and 15 minutes of yoga). You can have it if you like (just pm me your addy). You won't have it in time for yoga week, but it's yours if you want it.
HOPEFULLY tonight, I'll see what I can find free online...
Since I left town last Wednesday, I haven't had 2 minutes to myself (even yesterday, I was gone from 6:30am to 8:30pm at a family function. I did get a bit of physical activity, however... We went to my cousin's graduation (he was tops in his class, and Bill Cosby was the keynote speaker, so it was cool). The even was held at a big stadium, so we had to walk FAR from the parking lot, and even once we were in the stadium structure. My grandmother was in a wheelchair, and I was pushing her, so I told her to 'hold on' while I jogged and pushed her! She LOVED it, and laughed so hard. I was actually shocked I could do it.
Today is Mother's Day, so I'll be out all day again..heading out of town to where both of my grandmothers live, and then we'll take them and my mom out for dinner. I probably won't get home until after dark.
So I'll have to CRUSH IT the rest of the week...

Glad to be home, and so ready to be back into my routine after a week of travel and family. I did the minimum last week, which I felt was good under the circumstances. But I'm ready to pull out all the stops and sweat hard this week.
I'm excited about Yoga week. I have a class on Tuesday's, and do more on my own at the end of most workout sessions. But I'm going to look for a few new routines as well.
Off to make brekkie now. Will check in later with my totals for today.

Starting Weight in Nov.07 = 229 July 08 = Down 20-some pounds, 3 sizes, and lots of inches! SC BOOTCAMP 1 "GRADUATE" - Completed the 90 day challenge and established fitness habits I don't ever plan to give up.
Yesterday I took the day off with the intention of getting up this morning before work to exercise. But DH woke up in the middle of the night with a violent case of the stomach flu and I was up all night caring for him and too exhausted to exercise first thing this morning. I'm doing a long shift at work today and probably won't be home till after 10-11 pm, so I think today is a wash as well. That's ok I haven't really taken any time off yet during the course of this challenge, and as long as I can get the next 5 days in, I will still be on track.
I'm very very excited about this being Yoga week! I decided that I am going to go to at least one class in the area. I'd like to do two.. a bikram and an ashtanga class, if I have the time.
I have a few yoga DVD's and for those of you looking who already have some yoga experience and are looking for a good workout I highly recommend Rodney Yee's Power Yoga. It's apx. 60 minutes and a vigourous practice. Rodney is pretty good at cueing and it's a fairly easy tape to follow while still offering a challenging workout. I also bought Shiva Rea's DVD because I have heard several good reviews, but to be honest I have had a really hard time following it.
Anyway, have a great day everyone (especially all you mom's!)

Yesterday was another off day. I just collapsed and slept until the afternoon from all the travel and late nights, early mornings. Then had plans for dinner with a friend and went to see Spamalot. Today I have a family function to go to so I won't be in until late

Yoga last night was actually just what I needed. The stretching was great. My thighs are still killing me. It is hard to walk up stairs. I just don't know what I did defferently on Friday.
I was looking at the library for the 10 minute solution Yoga but they didn't have it. I might do an online search and see if they usually have it. I like those DVD's.
Not sure if I will be able to do anything tonight. Maybe stretching with Yoga or take it as a day off.
I think we have been doing so great with our exercise why not try and do the same with staying away from "bad" foods. I am going to start as of tomorrow (didn't eat the greatest tonight as Mother's day) to stay away from the "bad" food. I know if I could eat healthy I would be losing a lot more weight.

It wasn't quite what I had planned, but wanted DH to try the yoga with me. He only did about 10 minutes worth and complained a lot. He has very tight hamstrings and actually had to do rehab years ago to deal with them (repeatedly and severly pulled). I still assert that the yoga would help, but...
Now I get to see if I can keep up with this through the week, and stay on track. I cooked tonight and we have leftovers. If we can avoid the fast food this week, I'll be happy with the diet part. I still have to be careful with the veggies because of the cold sensitivity, but I'm going to do my best. I've been drinking warm water to try to get more fluids in.
DH said today how proud he is of me for doing this and sticking with it. Yay!
