Morning Ladies.

Yesterday was a rough day for me. I just felt tired. Most of the time we've been doing this, I've felt very energized. This week I haven't felt that as much, and yesterday was a real low for me. I did get my workout time in, first thing in the morning, but by the evening, I just couldn't (meaning chose not to) pull off a second workout. I felt like I was dragging, and wanted to go to bed at 6 pm. LOL. Dh sat down with me and looked at what I'd eaten during the day, and through the week (so glad I have a food log), and we could see that my nutrition was way off. I was doing well with calorie counts, but not in solid nutrition. I guess this is the first time that I've really felt like there was a correlation between my food and energy levels. I've felt it in minor ways, but I'm working out so much more now that I think the impact is more pronounced. I know we are focussing on fitness in this bootcamp, but it is giving me a wake up call to nutrition as well. Beyond weight loss, my body needs to have the right fuel.

So, I took the evening off. Soaked in the hot tub, and went to bed early enough to get 8 hours of sleep. Today I'm going to devote some time to a menu plan for the coming week.

This morning I started out with 2.5 miles of jogging. It felt great! Then I did some yoga stretches, and some abs and weights for upper body. Tonight I will do a second workout with Shred and Backside circuits.

Hope all of you are doing well. We've been quieter this week. Can you believe that we are heading into week 7? Well done! I'm so proud of all of us for doing this! So is this the midway point?

Off to have some herbal tea and work on a food plan.

Laura

Today I am at home with a sick little boy. Coughing and high fever. Took him to Emerg at 4:30 this morning because he had the chills with no fever and was vomiting to find out it is a virus. So I get an extra long weekend (it is Victoria Day in Canada on Monday like your Memorial Day). So I hope Adam is all better by Sunday when we leave to go to the Kalahari waterpark.

Last night, I did manage to get my power walk in and I have started doing sit ups and crunches in the am. Even though I don’t really enjoy Yoga, I am noticing some changes in my body. Adam is sleeping right now so I am going to do some Yoga.

Kat-I wish we had a Ross near me! There is a TJ Max close to me. Maybe when I get a chance I will go check it out. Geez $4.99 is awesome!

Happy hair cutting ladies!

It's hard to get really fit without paying attention to nutrition. Glad you worked it all out!! I get draggy, too, if my food is 'off', or there isn't enough fuel in the tank...

I actually really enjoyed the yoga I did last night. I wish I could find more workouts like that one.

Tell me about it. I wish they carried as many workouts as they used to. Later today, i might head to another Ross across town to see if I can score the Jillian Michael's Backside for beginners dvd. I previewed the Frontside, and I really like it (the collage clip didn't do it justice). I think you could probably go quite heavy with the weights, and turn it into a solid intermediate workout.

Well...

So far (on this last day of yoga week), I've gotten the following done:

- 20 min Interval walk/run
- 25 min Slim In 6: Start It Up (perfect hotel workout, too...no equipment and and not much room needed)

BTW, look what is for sale now!

Work Out: One-On-One with Jackie

I'm also quite liking these workouts:

Iron Core w/ Kettlebells

Laura- Thanks for the reminder of why it's a good idea to keep a food journal. It really gives you a good look at what you may be lacking nutrition wise. Hope this week menu planning goes well and gives you tons of energy to carry you in to week 7!

Sprite- Sorry to hear about your little one. Hope he feels better soon!

Kat- Thanks for the heads up on Jackie's one-on-one DVD sale. I started doing the core workout you suggested during core week and I'm hooked now. I was just thinking this morning that i was going to have to buy it soon so I have it when it goes off-air. (I guess it's a good thing soemone finally got her tax refund this morning, lol!) : )

I forgot to post yesterday's workout. I wasn't in the mood to go, but I dragged my lazy butt to the group workout I've been going to. I'm so glad I did. It is such a hard 60 minutes, but I always feel amazing afterwards.

Today's Workout:

Cardio Party One (43)
One-on-one Core (20)
One-on-one Lower (20)

Total: 1:23

Now I'm off to get ready to go to a dinner with DH's co-workers. I haven't met any of them yet and I'm looking forward to an evening out on the town. : )

If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods store or a Target, you can see it in person.

Kettlebells have been around forever, but are just now about to get into mainstream (the FIRM is coming out with a kettlebell workout at the end of the year). The workouts help to build explosive strength, and also core strength.

This is the company that originally brought kettlebell workouts to the U.S.
http://www.russiankettlebells.com/

This company also sells Kettlebell workouts: http://www.energyflow.tv/store/index.html#anchor

The ones in the link in the earlier post are partnered with GO FIT which is Mark Verstegen's company. He trains athletes, and he focus is core, core, core...

His books are FABULOUS: http://www.gofit.net/site/gofit/section/57

Scroll down to see his 'essentials' dvd's (which you can get at Target or Dick's). They are very 'no frills', but they are SOLID core training.

If you want a few 'frills' with your core (ie prettier production), Gunnar Peterson's Core Secrets 'off the ball' series videos are somewhat comparable, and so are Traci Long's TLT's.

Is anyone else finding a trend in their workout preferences?

I used to think that I liked super choreographed workouts, but I actually prefer more 'drill oriented' (ie let's do an exercise and move on) type of workouts. I also prefer more 'no nonsense' style workouts.

Kettlebell news story:

My abs hurt just watching this exercise:

Look at the kettlebells featured in this video...very cool (about 60 seconds in) At 2 minutes in, there's a neat group class with kettlebells.

Hows everyone doing after yoga week? Well yoga week almost killed me, in a respect. On Tuesday I went to a yoga class with my friend, big mistake! it was an intermediate class the moves were somewhat hard, but I gave it my all. Ended up pulling a muscle or straining my lower back somehow, so I've been in a little bit of pain. Did most of my workouts except for Wednesday when I was real sore. Feeling a lot better now though but that'll teach me!

Good news I lost a pound, would have lost a bit more but AF has arrived.

I still like turbo jam (which is very "dancey" and choreographed) for my cardio. But when it comes to strength training-- like you, I'm finding myself drawn to the "drill oriented" workouts.

Not so much the best week for me the month of May is just been a hard one with all the work travel. I've been home maybe 5 days so far. Wed I was at work at 7am and had a big employee event that I launched then went to the airport was in LA wed night at midnight (3am my time) then left LA for Chicago and got to the hotel a little after midnight today. So with the time change and travel I'm exhausted. Got up early and did some exercise today

30 min on the elptical
30 min on the treadmill

I'll do Yoga Ballet when I get back to the hotel later tonight

Workouts for the day:
AM =
Treadmill jog/walk 30 mins
Yoga 10 mins
Abs, push-ups, matwork 20 mins

Pm =
Shred 20 mins
Circuit training 55 mins

Total = 2 hrs 15 mins

Polly: I forgot to tell you congrats yesterday on your dress shopping fun. How exciting to be in a smaller size. Gotta love that. The scale isn't what matters --- the size of our body is what counts.

Kat: I am finding that I have a definate workout style. I really dislike dancey, choreographed routines. I can't do the footwork, and get bored. The only exception to that is the Zumba class I take at the Y once a week. Love that. But for my home workouts, that isn't my style. I like the circuit training, drill style too. I hadn't tried anything that was that style until Shred. Now I'm hooked, and am hunting for more that style (other than Cardio Max, and Jillian's Frontside/Backside routines). I have ordered Jackie Warner's. Can't wait to get it.

Great find on the beginner Front and Backside tapes. That is what I've been using. As they started getting easier, I just upped the weight amounts and they are still challenging. I really enjoy them. I have more of Jillian's dvd's on the way

Well, off to shower and then get the kiddos to bed.

Week 6 is completed for me. Cool stuff! I've never stuck with exercise this long, and am loving it. The end of bootcamp won't be the end of this for me. It feels too good.

Try Strendurance. I've only done week one, but I REALLY like it.
http://www.spinervals.com/index.php?...roducts_id=208

Also 'no nonsense' solid lifting in circuit format:
Power 90

Power Half Hour (one of my personal favorites. The two lower body workouts are fantastic!)

This one is tough, tough, tough...(I'm actually afraid to try it)
Ultimate New York Body Plan

This is also a circuit. The instructor is kind of 'loud' for my taste, but it's solid:
Hollywood Trainer Total Body Circuit

I haven't seen these in person, but the clips look very 'no nonsense':
S.W.A.T. Extreme Weight Loss & Fat Burning

S.W.A.T. Ultimate Body Definition

ETA

I forgot to list my workouts for the day...

- 20 minutes interval walk/run
- 25 minutes Slim In Six: Start It Up
- ...false start: Amy Bento A-Team Bootcamp
- ...false start: Cathe: Kick, Punch, Crunch
- 10 minutes Yoga Conditioning for Athletes: Running (not to bad)
- 10 minute Quick Callanetics: Stomach

I did lower body weights today and planning to do cardio this afternoon.

My mum pulled out from the shed this exercise video she found while cleaning, its so old its in video format lol. Its called "Kathy Smith's Ultimate Stomach and Thighs Workout" - anyone heard of it? Filmed in 1989 and goes for 85 mins, dont think its meant to be done all at once though.I might try it out instead of cardio this afternoon.

Yes, the full rotation is all 6. Each day you do a different workout with one day completely off. (One of the 6 videos is a stretch video, so you're only doing strength training for 5 days - one day is all lower body, the other 4 are a mix of upper and lower.)

If you're used to lifing heavy weights, you'll need much lighter ones for the 'slim' videos....
