If you're looking for a good obgyn, try Dr. Tatiana Vu. She is an incredibly nice woman, and she helped us get pregnant with our second daughter. She is the only doctor I've had who has been willing to prescribe the kind of meds needed to treat this condition. We just moved to Greenville, and I absolutely hate that I have to find a new doctor. If she is not accepting any new patients, her partner Dr. Spielvogel is also a very good doctor. I don't know what kind of insurance you have--they are part of the Grand Strand network of doctors. If you need a recommendation for a doctor affiliated with Conway Medical Center, let me know. I have several friends who see doctors in that network, so I can ask around.

I have 2 daughters--the oldest will be 5 in March and the baby was born in April 2008. One was conceived while I was on Metformin alone, the other was conceived with Metformin and Letrozole. Dr. Vu was my doctor for the second one. When my husband and I moved to Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago, my husband's assistant recommended Dr. Vu. She is young (I'd guess mid to late 30's) and very intelligent. She has a number of PCOS patients. She will spend as much time as she needs to talking to you about your concerns. They also have a nurse who does nothing but communicate with patients. I only know Dr. Spielvogel in passing--I saw him once during my prenatal exams--like most places, they want you to meet both doctors in case the other doctor has to deliver the baby. But, his assistant is the sister of one of my husband's other assistants, and they both love him. The one time I saw him I liked him very much and would have been 100% comfortable with him delivering my daughter (and I am usually uncomfortable with male doctors). Dr. Vu told me on more than one occasion that Dr. Spielvogel is one of the best doctors at delivering babies in emergency situations that she has ever seen (that was a factor for us since the first child became wedged in my pelvis when she was being delivered and had to be delivered very quickly by forceps). As far as how he deals with PCOS patients, I'm not sure. But I would definitely be willing to give him a chance if Dr. Vu wasn't available. They both have very good bedside manners. What is it exactly that you're looking for with regard to a new doctor? Are you looking for someone to help with the PCOS, or fertility issues, or everything? I'm just asking to see if there are any other doctors I can recommend--trust me, I've seen them all in that area--dermatologists, RE's, regular endocrinologists, obgyns, you name it.

They do help with fertility. If you're really serious and things just aren't progressing in that regard, Dr. Vu will offer to send you to a reproductive endocrinologist. In my experience with her, she will be as aggressive or conservative as you're comfortable with. So if you at some point want or need something beyond what she can offer, she will make a referral for you. As far as where they're located, they are just off Highway 17 across the street from Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Go out the back entrance to Carolina Forest, take a left onto River Oaks, take a right onto International, and take that to Highway 17 North. It's a few stop lights up on your right at the intersection of Hwy 17 and 82nd Ave. You'll see the emergency room entrance just before you reach the intersection. Take a right onto 82nd Avenue and go down a short way until you see a big yellow building on your left (it's in the Grande Dunes Surgery Center). Her office is on the second floor. Go up the elevator and follow the hallway around to the very end, their office is the last one on the left. It's funny that you live in Carolina Forest, that's where we just moved from, in fact we still own a house in the SpringLakes subdivision. Small world. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
