I am very confused because I am reading two different stories on soy isoflavones and fertility. I have either read it increases or decreases fertility! Does anyone have experience on this topic? I really want to try soy for TTC but am kindof scared because of the mixed vibes I am getting. Thanks for any responses! : )
Soy is a natural Phytoestrogen (plant estrogen) and is supposed to help with hormone levels and in essence menses/ovulation . . . there are lots of other natural supplements you can try if you are afraid of the differing reports on soy cohosh, chasteberry, ect.
Here is a site that explains a few options, but there are other options too
The book Positive Options for PCOS has a few recommendations too:
sarsparilla, vitex, Indian Ginseng and Siberian Ginseng
Good luck, I am sure you will find the right one or combination for you.

I've read it's harmful if you take it all the time, however many people use it as an alternative to Clomid. It's generally 80mg taken from cycle day 3 to 7 or 5 to 9 and it's supposed to stimulate ovulation.

From what I understand - soy has properties that mimic estrogen, and your body can respond to soy much like a dose of hormone. So, you can use it to try to induce ovulation by using it very carefully and intentionally (usually a larg-ish dose for CD 5-9, for example - check out the soy thread for specifics).
However, just taking soy all the time, especially supplements, soy powder, etc (basically processed, high-dose soy vs natural forms like edamame), can throw your hormone system out of whack and may actually have some serious side effects over the long-term.
Basically, soy is pretty controversial. Like so many things, Americans have jumped on the soy bandwagon and taken something that might be healthy in moderation and blown the dosages way up, which is not good for infertility.

Well said Justagirlgirlgirl . . . whenever we get supplements/herbal remedies we get the most natural we can and talk to either an herbalist or the pharmacist to see which ones they recommend as healthiest and most effective (we also do research prior) . . . just like acidophalus is great for the immune/digestive system and imbalances (yeast/thrush, ect) but the lactobacteria granules that are in the pharmacists refrigerator and are more effective due to being guaranteed to be still live bacteria. In other words, always do your research and ask plenty of ?'s.

I take a small amount of soy every day...it always makes me wonder, dont some asian cultures eat a lot of soy and still have good fertility? Same with some vegan/vegetarians? Just wondering. I have about 50 mg a day...
