I hadn't had AF in a while and I am not ttc so I just went ahead and did the soy trick for 5 days rather than really days 5-9 of my cycle. I took 2 50mg capsules every morning for 5 days, mon-fri. I'm pretty sure I ovulated on the following Tuesday - I only go by signs, so I never know the exact day. I just know that once my nipples start hurting, AF is coming in exactly 2 weeks. I also had eggwhite that Tuesday. Two tuesdays after that, I got AF. I just finished taking the capsules again yesterday so I don't know yet if it's gonna work a second time.
I'm not sure on this, but if you started bleeding a week after starting vitex, it's not necassarily something to rejoice about. It can't be an indication that the vitex has done much - too short a time for you to have ovulated and gotten a period. You may have ovulated a week before starting the vitex... do you know?
If you look, there's been a post on the dangers of soy... I'm not sure how valid any of these arguments are, but they are enough to make me wonder how good an idea this really is. It's a really neat trick... but if ovulation is the trade off for a slew of other potential problems, I'm not sure how good of a trick it is. I have this cockamaney idea that if I do it a few cycles, it will sort of train my ovaries the way the should go, and maybe then just being on the glucophage will allow the pattern to continue?
This isn't the sort of thing you can ask a doctor about, either... I can just see a doctor raising their eyebrows and saying there is no way this can work. Obviously, though, it has worked... I'd love to see some research done on it.
I'd love to know if it not only induces ovulation but also produces good quality eggs... I'm not sure if this is a ridiculous thing to think, but DH and I had sex sun and mon nights before I o'd and... to be honest, I was hoping for an ooops. Alas, no ooops, just AF, not that she isn't welcome! I know that even a normal couple with perfect timing only has like a 25% chance of pregnancy, though, so... I know that doesn't say much for whether or not the soy works. It could also be that since I hadn't had a real period in a while I just need a few more ovulatory cycles to start cranking out good eggs... who knows?
Personally I would say don't add soy to what you are already doing... I have this wariness of doing too many things at once, because then you don't know which ones are helping you and you may end up spending money and taking pills when you don't need to. So maybe continue with what you are doing for a couple of months and see what happens... then try the soy trick.
There are lots of women who report getting preg on vitex... but has anyone yet posted getting preg on soy? Of course, it is a relatively new trick, it seems... once the word gets out, though, watch soy isoflavane caps go flying off the shelves!
