Hi,
I also take 100mg of spiro for hair loss and hirsutism. I started it in June of 2007. The massive shedding has ceased and I am experiencing regrowth. For me, nutritional deficiencies have contributed to my hair loss--I was deficient in both Vitamin D and iron, so I have been taking supplements since August of 2007...so I'm not sure if the regrowth can be solely attributed to the spiro. My best guess is it's a result of the combination of everything I'm taking (I also switched from Yasmin to Ortho Cyclen bcp...I am absolutely convinced that Yasmin made my hair loss worse). Not sure if this helps any...the best I can say is that any hair loss treatment takes TIME and PATIENCE...hair takes a long time to grow, especially healthy, strong hair.

How long did it take to see ANY slowing of the hair loss? Ive been on it for about 9wks and don't think I've seen anything yet. Maybe switching to a higher dose would help?

I have been taking 100mg of spiro since nov 7th I am noticing I have hair growing around my hairline where there was no hair at first. My shedding is about the same. It may have slowed down a little.

For me, it was around the third or fourth month. I would stick it out at least six months before requesting a higher dosage--and remember, new medications, spiro included, can actually trigger increased shedding when you first start taking it. If you haven't started taking pictures of your hair loss, I would--it's hard to see progress day-to-day...taking pictures every 4-6 weeks or so is a good way to track and see what's working (or not) for you. Good luck.

You're right, after the first couple weeks my hair shed like crazy. But it has tapered off alot. Why does this happen? It seems like it made my hair thinner! I hope it grows back

Any time you introduce new medications (ESPECIALLY those that affect hormones) to your system, it can affect your hair...kinda freaks your follicles out, I think. I've also read that the less healthy hairs are getting ejected to make room for stronger, healthier hair. I know it's hard, but try not to think too much about it (or, if you're anything like me, obsess about it, lol). Just be patient and give it time to work. I would also recruit someone you trust to take pictures of your hair every 4-6 weeks to document your progress so that you can better tell if it's working--hair takes a long time to grow and it's very discouraging not seeing results on a daily basis. Hope this helps.

Not really sure....the first time I had a hormone work up was after I'd already been on yasmin for over a year. My total T was 30 with a free T of zero...my doc explained that yasmin typically can cut T levels in half...so my guess is I had high T levels at one point, but they have since been lowered. However, I can't say for certain since I never had them checked without being on meds. At my last check up, my T had dropped a few more points down to 24. This was six months after switching to ortho cyclen and adding 100 mgs of spiro.

Oh ok just curious because on my first test my total T was 117 (I know crazy huh!) and then went down after a few weeks on Yasmin. My Dr. added spiro so Im hoping 100mG will help my crazy levels!

Wow, that is pretty high The spiro and yasmin should definitely help bring that down. Yasmin is supposed to be one of the best bcps for us PCOSers in terms of lowering testosterone levels. It made me a little crazy and I think it made my hair loss worse, so it wasn't a good choice for my body. But I hear a lot of women have great success with it!

My daughter had to come off Yasmin as she sunk into a deep depression which need a child psychologist to help her with. Would think very carefully about Yasmin as it is not the wonder drug for all
