Hey, I have a question...
Is having a couple of drinks while being on Spiro okay? I mean once in a great while; I'm not a drinker....
I can't really find any info on this. And I never got a chance to ask my doctor because she is a horrible doctor and just pushes me out of the room and has no people skills whatsoever (she's a robot).... (But I am changing docs soon, as soon as I find the time)
I'm not a doc (but a know it all..lol) but I don't see why not. The major concern I believe with Spiro is the potassium sparing effect, which is bad. I know that a few drinks can act as a durietic (sp?) as does Spiro. This would be one of those things to ask the doctor about...because I would'nt want to mess with Spiro...gl! and cheers! heh

I used to take spiro and I would have a few drinks once in awhile. It did nothing to me, but again we all react differently to things.

I would also think it would be OK as long as you don't get seriously hammered...
Technically, spiro is a potassium sparing diuretic, which means the danger is too much potassium... your body doesn't clear potassium well... so you don't want to eat too many potassium rich foods, such as bananas or orange juice or gatorade. But if you drink to excess and throw up... excess vomiting can lead to hypokalemia, or LOW potassium... so actually, I would expect that there would be no problem, even if you did drink to excess. Your levels would probably stay normal. Not that getting that drunk is a good idea as a general rule...
Just stay away from too many screwdrivers...

I have NO idea about what I am taking. (Spiro) All my doctor did was prescribe it to me and did not say one thing about it except that it was for my body hair. She didn't even mention about the birth defects it causes, which I found out afterwards from this message board. I asked her about side effects and she said there was none. But I have had to pee every single hour since I've been on it and my periods have been f*cked up and I've been spotting, when I've never spotted before in my life. (I'm wondering if this will stop.) When I told her these things she said it was rare. Omg I can not wait to change doctors! Thanks guys for caring about each other, and our questions; it's kind of sad when we have to rely on people we don't even know rather than our own doctors. But at least I have you soul cysters. Thanks again.
I had to stop taking it as I was getting my period every 2 weeks:o
After almost a year of bleeding all the time and my doc saying nope it can't be the spiro, I listened to my gutt and took myself off the spiro, and what do you know????? periods back to almost normal!!!

I bled non-stop on spiro... even the patient leaflet said a side effect can be "menstrual irregularity." Ha. I read that and i thought, I have PCOS, I have 2 periods a year, how would I know if I had menstrual irregularities?????
Well, I knew...
