Default spiro or aldactone?

Hi All,
I am going to see my doctor in a few weeks and would like to ask her about Spiro and aldactone. Has anyone tried both? Which one has worked? What are the side effects of both?
Thank you.
Toral

Hi

Yes, Spiro and Aldactone are the same.

I've been on Spiro about 18 months now, and my hair does seem a bit less.

When I first started taking it, I was a bit more tearful for a few weeks, but now I'm back to 'my normal'.

Aldactone is the trade medicine and spiro is the generic I have taken both and believe me aldactone works better . It does cost a lot more 60 100mg. aldactone is about $120.00 in Georgia
thank goodness for insurance.

When I took spiro I had a lot of stomach upset and I wasn't noticing any changes, then I read a book that an endroconolgist wrote and he recommended taking aldactone instead of spiro
he said it just works better. So I changed and I haven't had stomach upset and I've seen a huge difference in the amount of hair I have. I've also heard that there is a difference in brand and generic drugs anyway you can do what you want I just know that aldactone worked a lot better for me than spiro.

Default Love Spir

I've been off and on spironolactone for about 10 years or so. Off and on, just because I'm not a good person for taking medications consistently.... except BCP...... I always remember those. Go figure.

Anyways, the very first time I tried it, it was about 6 months to a year before I saw results.... like real results. The chin hair went away totally...... boob hair and bikiniline were now "normal".... all was good.

However this is a lifetime thing. If you do go off the meds the hair WILL come back. I'm in an "on" phase right now and after about 4 weeks the plucking sessions are much quicker and further between.

In my opinion, you need to keep plucking or waxing during the treatment. I think the hair goes away faster if you do this. The hair cycle becomes slower with spironolactone, so shaving won't give you as quick results as shaving/waxing does.

Side effects: I pee constantly and I get lots of spotting. Mostly ugly black/brown stuff that lasts for weeks. My solution: hit the bathroom often and use light tampons. I'm not TTC so all is good for me.

ALSO: I lose weight easier while I'm on spironolactone. I'm still a porko, but it takes much less excercise to drop the same number of pounds

Uh that's it.

Default What dosages?

I've stopped the spotting!!!! Only took about 4 weeks LOL

Also I'm wondering what the dosages are that people take.... I am on 50 milligrams per day.... I notice people talking in "mcg" and is that not MICROGRAMS?

I was on spiro for about 3 weeks a few years ago and had to stop taking it because of horrible stomach upset, cramps, and diarrhea, But, since I"m going to the doctor this week, I might just bite the bullet and ask to be put back on it. I don't have any prescription medication insurance right now, so cost will be an issue...but the hair growth is starting to get really bad and icky.
Did anyone have stomach problems with spiro, but stick it out anyway? Did they get better?
