Angry Spiro Dosing Questions? :( my doc is holding out!

so, after trying it her way (YAZ) first and finding out that I can't go that way because Yaz and Topamaz hate eachother. I get constant migraines, are at risk for migraines and stroke, and bleed constantly, and am able to get pregnant, so why spend $53.00 a month on something that is not affecting my facial hair, except to make it grow it in faster and thicker. I finally complained until she gave me spiro... what do I find when I go to the pharmacy today? 30 pills, of 25 mg each, to be taken once a day. WHAT GOOD IS THAT GOING TO DO? OKAY... so before I make an appt next month to go in and yell at her, can everyone tell me what dosage they started with, what they are currently on, and how long it took to see a difference in facial hair, acne, oily skin, and hair fallout? PLEASE?

Spiro takes 6-9 months before you will see full effects. If your dr. only prescribed enough for one month without refills I would definately being asking why. Taking 25 mg. once a day for 30 days and then stopping is not going to do anything for you. Did you look to see if your prescription has refills? Most insurance agency will only pay for 1 month at a time, which might be why you only have enough pills for 30 days.

I started out at 25 mg once a day for a week, then I started taking 25 mg. twice a day. Within a month I had worked my way up to 50 mg. twice a day which is my current dose. It has been working well for me. I also take Yasmin, and the combination of the two really works for me.

At least your doc would let you try it, mine just won't do it.

I hope it works or that you can convince her to give you a higher dose.

Hello all. I started taking Spiro 50mg twice a day in April. I got my period 2 weeks later for the first time in 9 months. Then two weeks later, I got another period. I was scared to keep taking it because I don't want to keep getting my period every two weeks especially since I am visiting my fiance for the summer in Japan. I just don't know if it was a fluke or if that's what will always happen. Does anyone know if you ovulate while on Spiro? I am trying to find some articles right now about it.

The script she gave me is only for 30 days, and is for NO refills. I have an appt to see her on the first, and I'm going to have a talk with her. I'm hoping to find some studies about spiro and hirsutism that include the doses, and use those to budge her. Maybe I can find the patient information sheet for the brandname and see what that says. I did things her way and it didn't work. I can't take Yaz or Yasmine because I have migraines and the migraine medicine intereferes with the estrogen in them.

Spiro can cause you to have periods more often if you are not on BCP. I got a very light period every two weeks on 100mg. I had to stop taking it while my doctor was trying to find the right blood pressure medicine for me, and the next time I took it, I was on BCP, the regulates my period of course. I have read that if you continue taking Spiro for about 6 months, your periods will return to normal.

Yes, you do ovulate while taking Spiro. If you are sexually active you have to do something to prevent pregnancy while on Spiro because Spiro will cause birth defects, especially in boy babies. Most doctors won't prescribe it without prescribing BCPs tool.

I would definately be talking to your doctor about this. WebMD.com is a good place to find information on drugs. You might also look up hirsutism while you are on there to see what other treatments are. If your doctor is still dragging her feet, I would consider switching to another doctor. My doctor suggested laser hair removal to get rid of my facial hair. Spiro will not get rid of your facial hair, but it will make it grow slower. Their is also a cream called Vaniga that you can put on your face. This doesn't remove hair either, but it stunts its growth. This is kind of expensive and most insurance companies don't cover it. I didn't like it because it really dried out my face, but it is something else you could consider.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
