Default Spiro & Every 2 Week AF

I have been on Spiro (100mgs/day) since May. Just recently I started getting a very light AF about every 2 weeks. I've heard that it will eventually regulate itself out. Do any of you cysters know how long it will take to get a normal cycle?

This every 2 week bit is annoying. Good thing its light, but crimeney!

I have been taking Spiro since January and I have never had this problem. I also take Yasmin so that may be why my period is regular. Sorry I can't really help you with this. I know other cyster's have had irregular periods after starting spiro so hopefully somebody will be able to help you.

I noticed in your signature that you are not TTC, but not preventing either. You CANNOT get pregnant while on Spiro. It will cause serious birth defects in your baby, especially baby boys. If there is even a possibility that you might become pregnant, I would talk to your doctor about not taking Spiro.

I'm aware that you cannot take Spiro when pregnant. Things are still way out of whack and I would be totally shocked if I did get pregnant. Don't think there is much of a cycle when you're having AF that lasts about 5 days every 2 weeks. I go back to the endo in a week or so. I will be sure to discuss my options going forward. Looking to TTC soon.

I'm afraid that as soon as I go off the Spiro my testosterone is going to shoot right back up again :o/

That happened to me as well, I eventually went off it because it drove me mad!

Good luck!

Spiro did that to me the first time I took and was not on BCP. Every two weeks and very light. I was only on it about 3 months and stopped taking it for other reasons. I've read that your period will return to normal after a few months, so you might want to give it a chance. Now I am on BCP and Spiro and it is not a problem.

I am having the exact same problem! My endo upped me to 100 mg 2x/day (200 mg/day total) and this craziness started a few weeks thereafter. I was on 100 mg/day before, but it wasn't very long before she increased my dosage, so I really can't tell if it is due to he higher dose or not. Any opinions? Anyone else on 200 mg/day?

I had this problem, too, but I had been having my AF every other week for a while, then it stopped for a few months and soon after started up again right around when I started on Spiro.. It had probably been on it two months by then and just went on BCP to regulate because it was driving me insane!

Just a quick followup (although a little late) - My endo sent me back to my gyno who did a physical exam and said everything looked fine. He prescribed a 5 day treatment of Provera, which stopped the period I was having within two days and then gave me a one-week bleed after ending the Provera. Since then (over 2 months ago), no AF AT ALL. Here we go again - back to where I started with no periods.

I was on it for 2 years and my AF never straightened out. I had an IUD to prevent pg. I came off to ttc.
