I started spiro 3 months ago, 200mg a day. It makes my stomach swell. When I tried to stop it I broke out with boils in every place u could imagine so I went back 100mg a day. Is spiro absolutely necessary? My doc doesnt explain very well. He just says keep taking all the meds. I take met xr 1500 and BC. Shouldnt those be enough without the spiro. The only lab I had out of wack was my Testosterone (54)? I was dx because I had periods every 45-60 days, the testosterone level and I gained 30 lbs and cannot lose it!

The spironolactone is to control testosterone, to the best of my knowledge. You should not stop taking a medicine without talking to your doctor and letting him / her know your concerns. Have you talked to your doctor about your side effects? Swelling stomach can be a sign of an allergic reaction, as can the boils.

Yes i have talked to my DR and he keeps telling me that this will all pass in a year or so. But I dont think I can continue like this much longer. I know the spiro helps lower the testosterone but so doesnt the BC and the Met xr.

I have set an appt with a new doc. I hope he has a little better insight. I guess I just figured and OBGYN doc would know this syndrome inside and out like he claimed. So now I am going to try one that specializes in DM. Thw endo doctors around are not very good.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. (I wish i could get my dr to prescribe me spiro and my testosterone level was 80, but he does'nt like to use it). You may want to try posting in the medication threads, i'm sure lots of women there will be able to answer your questions better. Like other posters have said, i would definately keep in touch with your dr, and if needed, find a new one, best of luck and let us know how it goes.
