I was just prescribed Spiro (I can't spell the full name) today from my doc for my massive body hair. (I am not taking any other meds except for Metformin, 500mg.) I just remembered that I think I read somewhere that Spiro should be taken while on birth control. I'm not on any bc and never have been. Is that okay, and will the Spiro still work?
(I also have very irregular periods and my doc wants me to stay on 500mg of Met and not increase it.)
Usually, docs usually put us cysters on a BCP's because Spiro can cause defects in male fetuses. If I were you I would speak to the doctor and ask him or her what is your best options for birth control. If you are trying to have babies maybe spiro isn't for you at this time. However, even without BCP's it will work just fine. However, if using it you really need a relaible birth control. As for the 500 of met, maybe an increase might help your irregular periods. Some cysters need as much as 2500 to get a period. (Brave, Brave ladies...lol.) Don't be afraid to talk to the doc about your options. Good Luck on the Spiro it has worked wonders for me! Even my leg hair doesn't grow that fast anymore!!

The sprio will still work for you whether or not you are on BCP's... like disintegration said though, you may want to go on them if you require something for contraception. The met *should* help to regulate you and theoretically, you could get pregnant....
Hope that helps!

The spiro will cause severe birth defects.
That is why it is so important to NOT get pregnant while taking it.
Once you start TTC, they will take you off of it as well.
Be careful.

thank you for the replies everyone. My doctor didn't even tell me about Spiro causing birth defects. But maybe that's because she knows I'm a virgin and that I probably won't be having sex anytime soon....
