Default Spiro Question....need advice asap!

I was just prescribed sprionolactone to treat some of my symptoms. I have read alot about spiro and was under the impression that it should be stopped prior to getting pregnant, or can cause problems in sex organ formation of male fetuses.
I expressed my concern to both my endocrinologist and pharmacist. Both assured me that it is safe to use...EVEN if I don't realize I'm pregnant and take it as far as 6-7 wks into pregnancy.

Please share with me your advice on this. I am really questioning what my dr told me and am nervous about taking spiro while ttc.

Default Wow!

You have read my mind. I basically have the same question!

My RE told me that he wanted me to take Spiro into my 14th week of pregnancy when I get pregnant. I think I am going to politly refuse or just stop taking it when I find out I am pregnant. He says it will lower my chances of miscarrying but it seems to be a risk I cannot take. Although I dont think there has even been a human case of the male fetuses genitals not fully developing, it has happened in lab animals that were tested. Also it has not been thoughly tested on pregnant women anyway so I am not comfortable with it. It is kinda like daughters of DES no one knew at the time it would cause the problems it did.

Progesterone worked the last time I was pregnant and got me to 22 weeks... unfortunatly I lost the baby then but I really think the progesterone was important I am going to request to stay on the progesterone throughout my entire pregnancy next time!
