Kotzurk ~ The only thing that ever happened to me was I had to pee more about 2 to 3 hrs after taking it. It cleared up all of my acne and I loved it. If I wasn't ttc I would have never gotten off of it!! GL!!

Hi Kelsie,

I have been taking 50mg of Spiro a day for about 3 months and have not had any negative side effects. I have not seen any of the positive results (less hair loss, etc.) yet, but I have heard that it in some people, it can take up to 6 months to a year for it to become fully effective...so, I am hoping...

Good luck with it!

Default good and bad

I lost 40 pounds and over half of my dress size but AF started coming every 11-14 days, even when using NPC. I quit the NPC, "waited and saw" for 6 months, and then went on gluc XR 750 6 cycles ago and since the gluc she's consistently 21-22 days apart (save one fluke 27 cycle). I am not ovulating, obviously. Spiro's fault? Maybe...don't know! RE says "spiro doesn't stop ovulation." My acne also went 90% away and my mustache grows less. Head hair--can't tell a change for better, but hasn't seem to have gotten worse, at least not as quickly as the 2 years prior to spiro. I'm on spiro 100.

Next step, I think, for me is Nuvaring...see if AF will take a frickin' break already!

I'm on Nuvaring now, and I absolutly LOVE it!! It's great not having to worry about it! And I've noticed that my cramps aren't as bad on it as the were on BCP. I think it would be a good step for you. I hope you like the "rubber band" (that's what DH calls it.) as much as I do. Let me know!

Default Hey Kotzurk

Kotzurk, if I may ask, did you gain any weight (or lose any!) when you started NuvaRing? How long have you been using it so far? Have you noticed any positive (or bad) changes in hair or acne? Didn't mean to hijack your post, I am just curious about the ring...want to hear some stories before possibly doing something worse than I've got...not to mention it's $48 for me 'cause my cheapskate insurance doesn't consider it "preferred."

i took spiro about 5 yrs ago,,, for me i hated it.... i started taking it and was gaining weight steady,,, i gained 40lbs in 2 months it was awful was 1/2 - 1lbs everyday!!!! i was growing out of my clothes almost weekly.... but i have not heard of very many people gaining weight,,, maybe do a searh on the net "spiro + weight gain" as see what comes up..... i was also on bcp at the time, so maybe the combination wasn't good???

I love spiro! As for side effects, I do have to go to the bathroom all of the time (it is a diuretic), but that's it. My acne has cleared up, and my facial hair doesn't even grow any more. I'm on 25 mg twice a day.

Good luck with whatever you try to do!

On 200mg I had a period every 14 days. My blood pressure went UP way too high. I only got to take it about 4 months and had to stop. My doctor said it would be easier to treat my BP problems if I was not on it.

I've was on it for a year and a half, got off (TTC) and just went back on 3 months ago. I think that I initially gain 5 lbs or so. But it went away soon. I havn't noticed any negative side effects. However, I am pretty forgetful, so I have to mark on my calender when ton take it out, and when to put a new one in. I haven't seen any changes in hair growth. But hopefully the spiro will change that. I go see the doc next week, so I guess we'll have to wait & see.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Hello . I have been on Spiro 200mg for a month or so, and lately I am really worried about when the time comes to TTC. I want to know if anyone has gone off of it, gotten pregnant, and returned to it after pregnancy? I am so afraid it will linger in my system and harm my baby. Please let me know.

Hi,
I took Spironolactone for about a year and it really helped with decreasing my hair on my face, chest, and under belly button area. However, I seemed to be getting a UTI at least once every six weeks while on it. I quit taking it about 3 months ago and have not gotten a single UTI. Has anyone else experienced this, or might it possibly be a coincidence?
