Default Spiro side effects!

I've only been on Spiro (100 mg) less than a month. The breast tenderness I can deal with but I have noticed that my hair and skin have dried out a lot. My face isn't too bad, I just have to switch make-up now from Combination to Dry skin. My hair is what worries me, it's very, very dry! I already have a lot of hair loss and it being dry and brittle isn't going to make it any better.

It obviously makes sense since it's a diuertic but does the dryness even out with time? I've heard a lot of good things about it helping the excess hair but does it *really* help regrow scalp hair?

I've also noticed sexual side effects....please tell me this gets better!

Hi,

I took Spiro for a year, only stopped to TTC. I didn't really have any side effects. My hair is naturally oily and it did help with that, and acne. I think it's normal for it to dry out your hair, face, any where that there is oil. It CAN help regrow hair but it takes quite a long time. It was probaby 10 months before I saw regrowth and that is normal. It will lower your testosterone pretty quickly, but it takes a long time for your follicles to respond to it. In my opinion it's worth the wait.

good luck!

ive been on spiro about 6 years. It has made my skin much dryer, too. And at first it made my periods go weird - but its settled down now.

I have been on 100mg of Spiro for a week and a half. I have noticed that my face is not as oily anymore. It is nice not to have to apply powder all the time.

I have not noticed my hair drying out yet.

You have to drink lots of water on Spiro to stay hydrated and the symptoms like dry skin and hair will get better. I drink about 100 oz a day. Also try taking fish oil to help your skin and hair. I take the coated kind so that I don't get fish burps. I take about 2000 mg a day. This may be TMI, but Spiro also causes constipation if you don't stay hydrated. I have to take fiber a pill (like Metmucil) when I take Spiro.
