Default Spiro: What dose are you on or have you been on?

I started 25mg a month or two ago and from what I am reading, I feel like I should be on at least 50mg, if not more. Could ya'll answer some questions for me?

1. What dose are you on?

2. How long?

3. Is it helping? How or how not?

4. What previous doses have you been on, and what were the results?

TIA!!

ive always been on 100 spiro a day. Have been now for about 5-6 years. Yes, it has helped. My endo says that it takes 9-12 months to get to maximum result.

I was on 100mg for a few years. Like Eva said, it took about 8 months to start seeing real effects. I had no physical issues with it but was eventually taken off of it due to high potassium levels. It's too bad because it really did help and without the side effects other drugs have had!

I have been taking 100mg once a day for 4 months or so now. It keeps my acne at bay, and my hair growth is much slower and finer. I was previously on 200mg a year or so ago, for around 6 months..and although it worked wonderfully, I was having bad side effects and had to stop. Probably related to elevate pottasium levels, it also made my liver's billirubin high.

Msmedical..from what I know Spiro lowers your blood pressure, not elevating it..are you sure it was the Spiro?

I take 100mg/day... plus the 25 mg that is in my BCP. Been on it for 3 months... not sure if I notice a difference with the hair, but my skin is clearer.

I've been on 50 mg since February. I saw results pretty quickly - after just a month or two - and they've been getting better ever since. I may ask my endo to bump it up to 100mg next time I go in. I saw her after 6 mos and told her I liked it but wanted to wait out the 12 months to see the maximum effects. She looked at me like I was nuts and said I should see it after just 3 months, but because of this board I knew it might take longer and so I just told her I'd wait until next appointment anyway.

-anyway- I don't know about the acne because I've been on BCP for a couple years which has helped that anyway. But my hair is finer and grows slower. I only have to shave every couple weeks now, and even then it takes like 2 seconds to "tidy up" problem areas. I also noticed, with great joy, that my nipple hair is basically all gone. I used to have scars all over from plucking it so aggressively, but the other day I thought "huh... I haven't had sores here in a while" and then I realized I haven't plucked my nipples in ages! I still have some of my "happy trail," though, but that's better than it used to be.

i take 25mg of spiro right now...i have only been taking it for about 3 weeks now so i wouldn't notice any difference yet...i heard that it takes up to 6 months to see results....my doctor told me that most women with pcos usually take 100mg a day so she is trying to work me up to that dosage....

I take 100mg and it's been just over 3 weeks and I see/feel a difference already. The hair isn't as coarse and it doesn't grow in quite as quick, just slightly.

I went to my gyn who only gave me 50 mg BID, I knew that was not enough after coming to these boards. I then went to my endo, who is a wonderful doctor, and he bumped me up to 200mg. At this dose, I've really gotten good results with my hair loss. I don't have any excess hair, I don't really have enough hair at all. D:
Spiro has been a miracle drug for me, as I've really wanted to avoid Minoxidil. But it definately does take time, and the correct dosage.

I just started taking Spiro a week ago, I'm on 100 mg daily. I really hope that I start noticing a difference by Xmas. I was also wondering if any of you ladies had to have laser removal to get rid of the excess hair you already had before taking Spiro.

Default spiro:what dose are you on or have you been on?

i have been on 50mgs for 40 days now. i have not noticed any improvement with the hair or acne. i went to the derm today and he wanted to take me off of it because he said since i have not seen any improvement by now that it will not work for me. i talked him into upping my dose to 50mgs twice a day. i have to go back at the end of nov to see if it is helping. is this enough time to notice a little improvement? i hope so. my derm said spiro does not work for everyone.thanks

Thank you to everyone. I was about to call my doc to ask for an increase, but now I think the head on my hair might be getting thinner? Is this possible from Spiro? Sigh....
