Default Spironolact or Bactrim to treat acne??

I was wondering if anyone has tried Spironolact or Bactrim to treat acne? My derm just put me on both. I have been on accutance twice already, both times the acne came back after 6 months. I have been on literally every singl topical and oral acne treatment and nothing helps. I have also been on Metformin for over a year and nothing has helped my skin. Does anyone have any advise for me?! Thanks!

I am right there with you girl! I am on BenzaClin and Ampicilin for now, and he is going to change it at my 6 week check because I told him I am not staying on an antibiotic forever (I was on them 3 years in college with beautiful skin though!). I am also on 1500mg of met. If it weren't for the acne, I would feel good about myself. I am not heavy and I don't have too terribly much extra hair. Just bad bad acne. If you find something that works let me know!!! Good luck!

Hi Amanda Thanks for replying!
My case is similar to yours, I am not overweight at all and I actually don't have extra hair, just horrible acne. Do you think the Ampicilin has helped your skin at all?? I can't decide if I want to stay with the spironolact and bactrim or just to go on accutane again. It's hard to find something that works and I would do anything for clear skin right now!

Yes, my skin is definitely more clear now than before and I have only been on these two for two weeks now. He said by six weeks it will definately be improved. When I first started the BenzaClin, my skin was so dry it was scaley! But then I got the Cetaphil lotion and now I just use the lotion once a day and it's fine. That cream has an antibiotic in it too.

The nurse suggested accutane for me but for some reason the dermatologist didn't put me on it. Why did you go off of it? My mom said it made my brother's hands and lips crack and bleed and it was just awful. I do not know how it works so I guess I'm not sure about it either. Did you stop taking it and you broke out after 6 months or you broke out while you were still taking it after 6 months? Sorry I wasn't sure what you meant!
