Question spironolactone

HI Cysters,
Ok well I was surfing the net and I came across something that my doctor or I haven't heard of. It is a medicine that can be used as a topical cream or an oral medication. I was wondering if anyone has heard of Spironolactone other known as "aldactone" which is said to prevent excess hair growth in 6 months and acne. Has anyone ever been on this? and has it worked for you if you have?

You should do a search on this website because there have been tons of discussions about it. There are a lot of people who use it and say that it helps. I have been wanting to try it but I don't really know what the side effects are. I would think that there would be considering it is a diuretic.

Hello

I've been on Spiro about 18 months or so. I'd also say there's loads of info here if you do a 'search' for it.

I've been taking it for about a month now and already my cystic acne is clearing up. I haven't noticed much difference in my facial hair growth but I'm hoping there'll be results soon! The only side effect that I noticed when I first started taking it was headaches but those went away after the first couple days.

Spironolactone was originally used as a blood pressure medication. So, it will lower your blood pressure. Until your body adjusts to it, you may feel dizzy or get headaches. Because it is a diuretic, you have to drink plenty of fluids and watch potassium intake because it can raise potassium levels. I've been taking it for about a month now and have noticed a decrease in acne. Hopefully the hair will start to go away soon too.

Did you mean that your doctor has not heard of spironolactone, or the cream? The doctor should have definitely have heard of spironolactone as it has been around for years. The cream is quite well known too. I just want to make sure that you have a knowledgeable doctor as they should know these things!
I have been on Spirolactone for about a year and thankfully no side effects. I never had acne, so I can't comment. i don't think it has helped the excess hair though . I am bleeding on my own when I didn't take my BC pills for a few months, although I don't know what kind of difference that makes, as I doubt I am ovulating. I was experiencing hair loss, which was horrible, but I am using rogaine and it seems to be working. I should start using the cream! Good luck!

It didn't work for me. I just got really erratic periods every 10 days and I was on metformin at the same time. When I went of of Aldactone, I got pg immediately, so I guess it was preventing the met from working.
