Default Spironolactone and AF adjustment

Hi all,

I always had regular periods (since age 15 when they started) til about three months ago; (I am 37 y/o, to be 38 in a week, I'm 5'7" and weigh 110 pounds). I started on spiro 100 mg daily about six months ago for severe cystic acne and then as it wasn't clearing my acne quickly enough after three months my doc raised the spiro to 150 mg daily and then 200 mg daily. At this point I started having heavy nonstop (20+ day) periods. I cut back to 150 mg daily with no improvement in AF then I cut back to 100 mg daily. Immediatly AF stopped and I thought all was well but now 10 days later on 100 mg of spiro daily AF is back, argh! Is it possible AF is just readjusting back to normal or what? Does it take time for AF to readjust after large doses of spiro and if so how long does it take on average?

Thanks for any and all thoughts on this and best wishes from bookyone

hi

when I first started spiro - my periods went all over the place. But they settled down after a few months.

When I was taking 200mg, I had light periods every two weeks.

I was on spiro 100 and had AF every 2 weeks for 2 years. I had IUD & hate bcp so had no other way to regulate hormones (tried letrozole & tried prometrium, neither worked). Spiro is damaging to fetus-es, has your doctor suggested you be on bcp? They usually do, or some kind of heavy-duty birth control...anyway that might help straighten out AF.
