I ordered Spirotone online because I can't afford Spironolactone anymore. I don't have insurance. Does anyone else get theirs online and is it the same as Spironolactone?
I have finally started Spiro two days ago and was shocked to have to pay $117.00 for 100 pills!!!!!!!! Ouch. I have insurance that does not include prescription coverage and I did get the generic version (Spiro is generic for Aldactone). Saw the online prices from the link. Wow.

I was thinking of ordering Spiro myself until I saw all the possible side effects.
As a word of caution . . . it might not be the best idea to take such medications without being under the care of a physician.

Could someone please tell me what Spirotone is and what it does, also, can it be used in conjunction with Metformin.
Thanks

Hi Fee, Spirotone is a brand name of the drug spironolactone (also known as aldactone).
It is an anti-androgen, so should reduce testosterone and block the testosterone from acting on the skin and hair. So it should help symptoms like acne, excess hair and hair loss. Its also a diuretic.
I am very interested in this, It has never been mentioned by my GP or my Endo.

Hi Fee, sorry you can't use it if you're ttc, its very important not to get pregnant while taking spiro. Apparently it can feminise a male foetus, not good!
I don't think doctors here in the UK know much about spiro, they think the contraceptive pill (especially dianette) is the answer to everything!
Thanks Kat - and I agree with what you say about the doctors and Dianette.
