This is my personal views of the latest craze in sugar substitute-Splenda. I actually have mixed feelings about Splenda. Supposedly you can use the same amount of Splenda as you normally would use with sugar and whatever you are using it for tastes the same. I will disagree with that 100% I bought Splenda to use in Kool-Aid. I usually use 3/4 cup of sugar so I tried that much Splenda. I ended up using 3 times that amount and even then it didn't come out very good.
Now I have seen mixed views in some of the posts here about everyday products that Splenda. I tried the Blue Bunny Lite yogurt with Splenda-YUCK!-it was gritty and just had a nasty taste. I really like the Dannon Lite and Fit Smoothies and actually recommend them. I have tried the ice cream with Splenda. Nothing special there, though I have read that it has given a few others diarrhea.
But here is the topper-I bought some of the Russell Stover Low-Carb and No-Sugar chocolate candies. After eating a few I looked on the bag and seen that they were made with Splenda. They tasted alright, but nothing compares to the taste of real chocolate. After eating them, though, I began to experience really bad gas in my stomach. It would bubble back and forth and made me really sick to my stomach. I also started having diarrhea (TMI). It actually took me about a week to connect the two. Needless to say, no more of that!
Have any of you have any experiences with Splenda that you would like to share for FYI or would you like to suggest something made with Splenda?
I hope this post gives some consumer info of all of you out there.

I've used and like Splenda. I use it in tea, hot & cold. I use it when baking because it does better than Equal. I have noticed though that you do have to use a little bit more Splenda than sugar to give it the right sweetness. I have also ate several products made with Splenda, and pretty much like them all. I have not experienced any adverse side effects from using it. I guess everyone is different and reacts to things differently.
I buy Ice cream and candy made with Splenda and I like it okay. I have not ate regular candy or ice cream in some time now so to me it taste great. When I do eat regular candy and ice cream I feel sick to my stomach from it.
I have never felt sick from Splenda.

Just thought I'd post a link...it can be bad for your health.
Have you tried Stevia? It's a natural herb that is 10 times more sweet than sugar...just an fyi

I was always under the impression that its not the Splenda causeing the gas and upset stomach but the sugar acholcol(sp) that is in so many of the products. I eat quiet a few things with splenda in them and it doesn't really hurt my stomach but it seems if I have to much it will slow down my weightloss. About the Russel Stover Candy It have me gas also but it does say on the package that it can have a laxative effect. Alot of people say they can't tell the difference from Taste that splenda is in a product well I can sure tell the difference but I like it so much more than equal/sweet & low.

I bought some Hersheys candies and ate a bunch of them,
then had the same problem with gas etc.. (even running to the bathroom)
i read over the small print and it said B/C of the Lactitol,
"exsess consumption may have a laxitive effect"
i also ate the russel stover "turtles" and it had the same affect on me.
Now my point is.. i eat splenda all day every day, in food & drinks
and it never bothers me in that way so it might be the other things in the candies like Lactitol or whatever else thats making the problems. :o

Look at the first ingredient listed on a splenda packet. Maltodextrin. Yuk! That is what is causing gas and bloating. I stopped using it for this reason . Stevia may be the best and on surgar busters you can use fructose which is ok too.
I have tried Splenda in just about everything and I love it in everything but drinks. In food I can't tell the difference but in drinks, YUCK!!!! It's really good in oatmeal.

I do like the Carbolite chocolate bars, but don't eat a whole one at a time.
I overconsumed once and thought I would just about die from the gas pains!
I much prefer stevia; I use the packets in my coffee and use it for baking. I didn't have any stevia packets with me this evening and tried Splenda in my coffee - yuk!
the Russel Stovers chocolate candies use maltitol, a sugar free artificial chocolate. A lot of people are sensitive to maltitol and it can cause gas, bloating and diarea. Splenda usually doesn't cause any of these symptoms, on average, but i would imagine that there would be a few people sensitive to it, as with any other food product out there.

Any kind of artificial sweetners trigger migraines in my DH, so we don't use sugar or any sweetners.
We have found that putting cinnamon in oatmeal, on rice, and in baking recipes improves the taste, and curbs our sweet cravings.

Yeah, all of the products that have been listed so far as causing cramps etc. contain some sugar alcohols. I'm quite sure that those are what is doing it (they do it to most everyone---in fact the gas indicates that they're not being digested as sugars)
Everyone's differerent, so you might be having a reaction to Splenda, but my bet it that its the maltitol, sorbitol. lactitol etc.
Fortunately for me I only have bad candy cravings at nightime and I'm single ;-) ----so If I keep it under say four pieces I'm not in much pain, I just make all sorts of noises.
After eating them slowly for a while, I realized that I don't need to eat as many as I would if they were real candy because they don't cause that insulin spike that makes me want more and mroe and more----But maybe that's jsut lucky me too.

I am a culinary Arts student. I don't eat a lot of sugar..except of course in tea. I do, however, use splenda in almost all of my baking. Majority of my customers can't tell the difference, even my father, who was raised eating really rich desserts, can't tell. It's never made anyone sick. Any ideas for homemade spaghetti sauce?
