OK, so I'm suspecting strep throat but not too sure.. Ive had a sore throat since Saturday morning, no fever (my temp is 98.2) and it hurts worse to swallow. I have spots on my tonsils, not white, just kids of like leopard spots on both sides, more on the right, and that one hurts worse. I wosk with kids (70+) on the weekend and have close contact with them (lifting onto horses, showing them how to control horse) ... so wouldnt be surprised to catch something, but was wondering if anyone knows is spots are normal and maybe I just have a cold? Everyone take out a flashlight and lookk at your tonsils!
thanks

I don't think spots are normal. You should go and have it checked out. As for Strep, every time I've ever had it, I really knew I had it because of how sore my throat was. It is the most excruciating pain in my throat and there was no way I could have waited 2 days to go to the Dr. I also had fevers with Strep.

Sounds like tonsillitis. I had it ALL my life. Had my tonsils out twice-yes twice. They didnt take it all or theyregenerated (yes they can). I had them out when I was 17 and then 6 months ago at 27. It was hellish but I am so glad I will never get tonisillitis again. If they grow back, I'm keeping em.

I don't usually run a fever when I get strep, but my daughter usually runs in the mid 104's, so obviously it is different for different people. I agree though, if you put off medical attention, the pain will become excruiciating. Get it looked at asap.

well my doctor wasnt in yesterday so I talked to another doctor, she said since my throat isn't horribly sore, and I am not running a fever, its probably just a viral infection, spots are normal (which they may be but I have never noticed them on myself before) and to gargle with salt water (I have been). And to call if I get a fever.
This is day 5 of my sore throat, and still no fever or anything, but my neck is very sore down into my back. I just took a flashlight and looked in the mirror, and one spot on the bottom of my right tonsil is white. The others look like they might have a coating on them, but Im not sure.
My doctors assistant called just now and left a message saying I should call and come in tomorrow or Friday.
I dont knwo what to do, if I go in and they tell me the same thing, I'll sure feel DUMB. Im sure its not strep but this isnt normal. Its sore up into my right ear :/
Sorry for the novel.. But should I still try to go in and be seen and risk being told the same thing twice?

I would go to the doctor. I took my son to the doctor before for an ear infection and be told he didn't have one and the very next day took him back to the same doctor and was told he had an ear infection and she didn't know how she missed it the first time she saw him. So you might have strep and definitely need seen again!
well considering i had strep and my throat wasnt sore at all..my tonsils were swollen and coved w/ dots.....i would go..better to be safe than sorry

I had the same thing but it ended up being viral pharngytis. Fancy name for throat infection. I did have a fever, spots and a horribly sore throat. It was so bad I couldn't eat or even sleep for longer than an hour or two at a time. You have to get the strep test to rule out strep. If it's strep they can give you antibiotics but if it's viral you're out of luck. I had to take lots of advil and sleep. Good luck, I hope you're feeling better soon. Go see the dr!

I say go into the Dr. I had the same thing happen and I had it for over 3 months. The bacterial infection I had was resistant to amoxicillian, partly my fault the first round of antibiotics I was on I didn't finish and the bacteria ended up resistant. I ended up having to go to an ENT Dr. and he put me on a strong antibiotic. Luckily that killed the infection and I didn't have to have my tonsils out.
As for your neck hurting, you have lymph nodes all throughout your body, check the back of your neck and see if any are swollen, there are some under your chin in the area that the Dr always checks. If they are swollen then there is something going on. Your lymph nodes are like filters.
Good Luck,
Lana
