I was on Lexapro for 2+ years and It worked great. Now looking back when my PCOC symptoms got really bad my doctor switched me to Effexor XR that has seemed to help as long as I don't have a period. When my period starts nothing helps, my emotions are all over the place rage, sadness, anger, deep depression, even suicidal.

Why do you want/need an SSRI? Have you tried any thing else for your symptoms? I took Paxil for 6 years for an anxiety disorder. When I finally decided to come off of it, the withdrawl symptoms were awful. I will never take one again. What has really helped me, is finding other ways to deal with my anxiety. If you can find a counselor or psycholigist, that may be one way to go. I was never able to do that, because I could never find anybody who wasn't more of a fruitcake than I am. (Not saying you are a fruitcake, I just find it easy to deal with things if I make inappropriate jokes about myself and my problems. I have read some books, and I can now deal with my anxiety on my own without pills, most of the time.

Are you currently TTC? If not, have you considered taking BCPs? I had horrible mood swings during my period. I am surprised I have any friends left! Once I started taking a BCP, my mood swings decreased greatly.

I felt the same way with Effexor-never went back to meds once I got off of them-went to counselling instead and feel way better. My mood swings are still here sometimes though LOL

SSRI's can cause anxiety and agitation in the short run, typically it passes after a month or so. Have you tried just sticking it out, or talking to your pdoc about a short term anxiety medicine to get you through the first month?
