Unhappy Started BCP's and no period???

Has anyone else suffered the same thing here as I am going nuts trying to figure this out!

I was getting a typical period every 35 days or so but my RE recommend the BCPs to reduce the cysts I had been struggling with. I started taking Ortho Novum three months ago. My first period before taking the BCPs stopped after one day, so I took the first pack, no cycle at the end. Rang my RE, was told to start the second pack. Ended that with no cycle either. Pregnancy test was neg so started a new pack of Ortho Tricyc. incase it was a 'pill' issue. What gives? The lack of a cycle is driving me nuts and I have to wait until the 15th Jan to see my RE. Has anyone else experienced this? It's been at least ten years since I took BCPs but I don't remember them being this problematic. I had very bad nausea and dizziness with the Ortho. so was glad to try something new.

I have also had this issue with BCP's. It could be that the hormones in the pills you are taking are not enough for your body to menstrate. Most likely your Dr. will test your levels or change around your pills.

The issue I had was that my body just wouldn't menstrate. It took me a while, but after a bit of consistency with the pills and keeping a steadfast approach I finally menstrated. Although it was the period from hell, it was the first period in 3 years....so I guess thats a good thing!

Ortho can be a tough pill with many side effects. I would discuss a less harsh pill with your Dr. as there are several out there that are just as good. Different brands have different hormone levels so you may just need to find the right level for your body.

I take Alesse and it is the lowest form of hormones. I have tried everything else and found that either I couldn't menstrate or I was a walking emotional bomb. Alesse is the right BCP for me so Im sure you will find the right one for you as well. It's all trial and error and can get very frustrating so just hang in there!

Wanted to point out there is no "ortho" BCP exactly... Ortho is a company and makes a HUGE range of pills. The OP just said ortho, too - do both of you mean ortho-novum? I took ortho-novum 7/7/7 for a while and it gave me migrains which I had never had before. Horrible! I tried the regular ortho-novum for a while, too, and I think it made me fat and pimply... did NOT help with the PCOS. So I do think ortho-novum is bad, but to say "ortho" is bad is not very descriptive. The same company makes ortho-cyclin which I do very well on (not ortho tricyclin which is slightly different)

To get back to the original question I did ONCE take a BCP and had no bleeding after it - can't remember if it was desogen or demulen. I wasn't pregnant, just no period - but it freaked me out and I didn't go back on it. No idea what would have happened had I given it another cycle.

Finally went back to my doctor who put me on Loestrin. For the first two weeks, I was doing fine. Now on day fifteen, I'm having a break through bleed, similar to a period. So sick of this. I've also gained about five pounds and feel so tired and fed up. Now I have to wait until wednesday to see my RE and hopefully find out what's going on. Since losing my mum to Endometrial Cancer at 55, it's stupid but always in the back of my mind that this could be something more sinister. The Doc. told me that I was too young and didn't have any risk factors, but funnily enough, that's exactly what the Gyn. told my mum five years ago! You would think that they could do an analysis of your hormones over a month and then match a pill to it. What a dream that would be, lol!
