Question Started Met & now no AF???

Hello all:
I've recently been diagnosed PCOS. Even though I have had regualr periods, I have not been ovulating. My MD started me on Metformin, and now I am up to 2000mg/day. Well, low and behold, AF is late this month. (For the first time ever). I did a home EPT and I'm not pregnant.
Has anyone ever had regular AF's, started Metformin and then had late AF's??? I go back to the doctor tomorrow.

Thanks,
Sav

That is not uncommon at the beginning. Even if your periods have been normal, Met is regulating a major hormone (insulin). All other hormones tend to take their cues from insulin, and so it's very common to take several months to get your periods back and for your body to sort up from down. If you aren't already, moderate the carbs in your diet (they spike your insulin even more and can counter-act the drug), exercise (it helps our bodies use insulin better) and if you haven't had a period by the 3rd month, get one induced with provera or progesterone cream. It can take some time, but things will start to get regulated and your periods/ovulation will often get back on track. Your hormones just get a little hairy while they normalize.

When I went on met, I got my period after 10-11 weeks and then a couple that were 28-29 days. then I had a 60-plus day cycle. Until I incorporated the diet and exercise consistently, I was irregular.

I know it's tough when you're TTC, but give it some time. Met really does help many of us a great deal.

Good luck!!

Me too, I never had periods (well not never) but when I started Met 3 days later got a brownish episode and nothing, took provera (cuz it had been more than 6 months) and got my period and 3 months after that they were only 30-36 days apart and then NOTHING It's been like 52 days now but going by what christyz says I am still playing the waiting game. Trust her when she says it will come around I believe it will. Patience my dear, patience...

Oh on Glucophage I never had anything!!! Changing over to Metformin (the generic brand) I starting getting results...it's really what is best for your body...what works for one may not for the other...

Good luck!!!

Thank you ladies. I am now feeling a bit more at ease, knowing this is "normal". We'll see what the doc has to day tomorrow as well. :o)
