My doc didnt tell me to take only 500 to start them up it he just told me to take 1500 of met 500 3x's a day.
Ive only taken 500mg so far.
Should I juat take the 1500 as he rx'ed me to or should i build up slowly?
Im scared after reading all these side effects!!

Definitely build up slowly. If I remember correctly my doc started me on 500mgs for 5 days, and then 1000mgs for 5 days, and then 1500 mgs. You need to give your body a chance to adjust.

I tell ya, and I'm NOT trying to be gross here... but this is where we can talk about these things, right? (I'm new to the boards)

Metformin makes you poop unlike any flu, food reaction, etc.. that you've ever had in your life. My doc didn't want me to build up but rather start the 1500 right away. He said this side effect would "taper off". Yeah. Okay. In the meantime I'm chugging water to combat dehydration for all the potty trips.

But what ever it takes, right!? grrr....

I took my first 500mg pill about 6 hours ago......4 trips to the bathroom later i may just take the advice of slowly building up!

my doc told me to start out at 250mgs! To cut the pills in half!

so 250 for a week
500 for a week
1000 for a week
and then 1500.

slower depending on how you feel!


Jeesh if your already having the poops don't torture yourself and take anymore.
