Exclamation Started Vitex/Dong Quai on Sunday...

Hey cysters. I am somewhat confused, and am hoping someone here can shed some light on my situation.

I started taking Vitex & Dong Quai on Sunday. Me and DH are not activly TTC (but not preventing it either). I started these herbs because of the fact that I haven't had AF in nearly 2 months, and didn't want to have to go back to my DR if I hit the 3 month mark.

So here is my problem. I woke up this a.m., to find that AF has decided to visit... So what do I do now??

Do I continue taking the Vitex & Dong Quai, or do I stop it? I've gone back through tons of old posts, but every post I find on it says something different...

Thanks in advance for any help/opinions/comments...I welcome them all!

Good news about AF!
You need to stop the dong quai right away as it will make the bleeding worse (it is a blood thinner) The vitex can be used throughout.
Once AF stops you can start the dong quai again or you can wait until after you O as some women do (or after day 14 for those who aren't o'ing...yet)
If you are taking these two in a combo then I would get yourself some individual vitex to take during AF so it can work on building up in your system. It is a cumulative herb and needs to used consistently. Then you could go back to the combo after AF.

Ditto to soaperMOM's comment. Stop the Dong Quai, but continue the Vitex to let it build up.

I've been taking Vitex for almost six months, and I take it during AF (I wanted to let it build up in my system). When we actively start ttc, I'm going to stop taking it after O. However, if I start to lose the effect (which I don't think will happen, but it may) before I get pg, I will take Vitex past O until BFP hpt.

I greatly appreciate the info...I knew that I had read previously that one or the other should be stopped during AF, I just couldn't remember which one...

Thank you again!

Question Question.,Vitex and Don QUIA how do u kow if you have ovulated

When do u know if you ovulated or not? During Your LH I just started Vitex about 3 weeks ago and started don Quai Yesterday. I am currently on Glu 1500mg a day ttc #1 32y/o I "supposedly ovulate this week on the 20th I just started the herbs My GYN/END suggested I get back on the pill again for 2 months to regulate then try Clomid but I have decided on my own to ttc naturally on the herbs I dont think going back on and off of the pill is going to be the solution to this prob. I am trying the herbs and I am currently looking for a GYN/END who can understand my needs as a PCOS patient. Any infor would be appreciated

pecanprican70, ovulation can be confirmed via a progesterone test (that the docs usually schedule 7dpo...a bit circular, there, but you can do it at any time after suspected O to confirm) or by charting your bbt (temping after three hours of sleep before you move in the morning at the same time each day, and possibly checking cm and cp).

some great resources for bbt are: www.fertilityfriend.com - they have free online charting, tutorials in how to do it, and a chart gallery; Taking Charge of Your Fertility - a great book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/se...867021-6927901).

definitely shop around for a doc...it may take visiting a bunch before you find one (i had great docs until i moved out west and then it took me three years to find one).

good luck with the herbs!

Cool Thanks

I appreciate your help. I cant do the blood test to check because then my GYN will know that I did not take the Bcp's that she prescribed. I will and I am Looking for a doctor I heard that Licorice root also helps you ovulate. I am going to continue the Herbs and I also purchased Gladstar's book on Herbs for Women so I will be doing lots of reading. DO YOU know anything about Palmetto, Licorice root ? Thanks again

Thankfully,
pecan
