Starting 500 MG of Met monday, is this dosage too low??
I recently had my levels checked with my reproductive endo. My hormones were ALL completely normal, my ovaries were clear except high insulin. I'm about to start my first month of Met, ( i took it a while ago but didn't continue with it, i can't remember why) and i'm starting out with 500mg. My doctor said my insulin is 23 when it's supposed to be 17 or 18 I believe? It wasn't drastically high, but only a bit. I read a lot of threads on here discussing much higher dosages, but my doctor only wants me to stick to 500 because my pcos doesn't seem too "severe". Has anyone taken 500 and worked completely fine? I'm TTC #2, had a miscarriage almost 3 years ago. Thanks!!
So it seems you are at the very beginning stages of PCOS? If you were not to treat the high insulin, you'd eventually end up with all of the yucky symptoms of PCOS. I think 500mg has a very good chance of working for you if the reason for your infertility is high insulin. There are other cysters here who got a BFP while taking 500mg and they were in worse shape in terms of PCOS/IR than you seem to be.
Try it out for a month or two, re-check insulin levels, and if it doesn't seem to be effective, ask for an increase. If your doctor refuses to increase your dosage, cut out all carbs and sugar to help with the insulin reduction.
Best wishes!
