Default starting glumetza instead of met....

Is there anything I should know about glumetza? I could not stomach the met and I really, really want to lose some weight! I'm hoping glumetza will help with that. Has it helped anyone else lose weight?

I am on Glumetza- I started it about 2 weeks ago and have already lost 12 pounds. Oh, I started thyroid meds at the same time so don't know which one to attribute the weight loss too. I am only on 500 mg of glumetza, but so far I realy like it- no side effects.

Glumetza is a brand name for the met, but it may be that you are getting the XR (extended release), which is what helps with the GI symptoms. WTG on the weight loss!

I am only on day 2 of glumetz. No s/e yet. I took 1000mg last night and 1500mg tonight. The pills are a dark blue and pretty big, but very easy to swallow. I don't gag on these like I did on the regular met.

I switched from Fortamet to Glumetza about 2 months ago. And, although I have not lost any weight due to continually high testosterone levels, I cannot tell any significant differences between the two brands--they are both extended-release metformin, after all. One inconvenient thing about Glumetza is that it is only available in 500mg tablets; so, if you take 2000mg like I do, you are stuck taking 4 rather large pills. However, I have noticed that the coating on the pills is different and is much easier to swallow.
