Question starting Lexapro

I was just put on Lexapro and I am supposed to start the starter pack tonight when I go to bed. Is anyone else on this and what are the most common side effects that I should be aware of?

Hi there, I've been on it for about 8 months I think.

It's worked well to lift my depression and anxiety
I've had a lot of side effects and am in the process of coming off it, but I am particularly sensitive to meds and most people don't seem to have as much as a problem as me.

Some of my side effects have been;
-nightmares, weird dreams
-farting. And I mean farting up a storm.
-general upset tummy, bad stomach ache, indigestion, ibs symptoms
-exhaustion
-inability to orgasm which improved after a few months
-inability to laugh properly/cry
-loss of appetite

I hope it works well for you. It does seem to be effective and if you escape the side effects, or only have them mildly, it could really change your life!
Good luck.

How are you feeling on them so far? Do they seem to be agreeing with you?

i LOVED lexapro... i didn't have any side effects except that it inhibited my liver function and i had to stop taking it. that happens in very few people. i was super upset that i had to stop taking it... but i know a ton of people on it and they all love it. take it at night and side effects are lessned.

My sister stopped taking it due to nightmares, but I just had the usual (for me) nausea and tremors. I suspect it's also been making me extra sleepy, but I can't be sure because I have sleep issues that are separate from everything else. I take it in the evening just in case. I've been on it for 15 months, and it has quite literally changed my life- in a good way.

Mim - were her nightmares terrible? That is something I have been really worried about but I'm hoping that isnt a side effect for me!! Is there something you can take to help you sleep over the counter??

So far, I'm on two days, and maybe its the effect of "thinking" i have something in my system, but I feel so much better. I havent been nearly as anxious!

I've been on it for 3 months now and an finding it great!! This is the best i have felt in over 3yrs!! The only real side effect I *think * I have found is a bit of sleepiness an hour or so after taking it, but that could be just cause I am often tired and chasing around 2yr old twins too!

I hope it works just as well for you as it has me! All the best!

They were so bad she hated going to sleep at night- that's why she stopped. But they were pretty immediate once she started, so if you haven't had any yet you probably won't.

For me, it's not getting to sleep that's the problem, it's staying awake during the day. But I have sleep apnea, and my treatment hasn't been the life changing thing they said it would be. I don't want to blame the meds if it's just me.

And no, it'd not odd to feel that way after only a few days. Everyone I've talked to has said the same thing- it says it's not supposed to kick in for a few weeks, but everyone seems to feel better in a few days to a week.

Drama Queen, I also have nightmares on it but nothing to put me off going to sleep, and I don't have them every night.
Infact, I've had some of the most incredible dreams on Lexapro too, like nothing I've ever experienced before. As bizarre as it sounds, I'll really miss them if I manage to get off this medication completely. I want amazing dreams like that every night.

I didn't have any side effects when I started the medication it was when I tried to go off that it really hit me. I have now been taking Lexapro 20 mg for 2 years and there is no way i am going off. I have tried and that was the worst decision in my entire life. I LOVE it and HAVE to have it. I hope it works for you!

Hi to all. I'm super new here and just thought I'd jump in and put my two cents in. I've been taking 20 mg of Lexapro for close to a year now. Wow!!! It's helped me in ways I wouldn't have thought any drug could. I have to say, it took a couple of months to totally adjust. I got the drowsy feeling about 30 min. after taking it, had some pretty bad gas, strange dreams and a few other side effects all of which subsided over time. Now I don't even notice them. The biggest hurdle for me to overcome was how tired it made me. Eventually I started taking it right before bed and that helped. I don't think I'll ever get off of it! I feel SO much better
