I've been having trouble finding a medicine or combination of medicines that work for me and agree with my stomach but here is the situation.
My doctor started me on met this week. I always hear from other doctors and from women on this board that when you first start met you are supposed to start out with a small dose to get your stomach used to it, then work up to a higher dosage. But my doctor STARTED me on 1700mg each day, which is two pills a day that are 850mg each. My testosterone is high and I am insulin resistant, but my PCOS is not that severe! Last time my testosterone was checked it was in the high normal range, 71. But that test was taken over a year ago, so it can't be accurate now. He said the normal levels for women were 20 to 80.
My question is, do you all think he knew what he was doing?
And are there any cysters here that were started on a large dose? I haven't been to this board much so please forgive me if I repeat other people's questions.
I take it with food every time, but it doesn't matter whether I have just a cracker or a whole Thanksgiving dinner sized thing, or anything in between. It ALWAYS upsets my stomach. A little over a year ago he had me on a lower dose of met, 1000mg a day, and it didn't bother me at all. I am upset that he started me on a large dose and did not seem to care about my stomach. In fact, he doesn't even do any blood tests on me unless I beg and plead. Ever. I am guessing I am insulin resistant since I can starve myself now and pack on weight, but he won't do any tests to see if I am IR. I'm switching doctors.
I'm currently on 1700mg. a day. 2 850mg pills a day. I had to start off slow or otherwise I would probally be weighing 90 pds right now because I would be so sick if I started out with 1700mg.......
I got sick and lost major weight starting off slow.
I started:
week 1-500mg a day
week 2-1000mg a day
week 3-1500mg a day
Now-1700mg a day
Personally I would start off slow. Speaking from expieriance of having those bad s/e.
Good luck,
