So, I've been on Met for almost 2 years now. Initially I dropped 16lbs when I first started taking it and haven't really seen much of a difference since then. I eat low GI and exercise regularly (but sometimes I think not as much as I should be). Anyway, when I got back to school I joined the gym on campus and started to really focus on eating well and working out - weights, cardio, the works. When I went home 3 weeks later I'd gained 3lbs.
The OTHER problem is, I haven't had a full period on my own with the met since May and they used to be pretty consistent (once every two months or so). I have no idea what's going on. It seems like the metformin has just stopped working. I know weight loss is extremely hard with PCOS, but why are my periods disappearing all of a sudden? Can you develop a tolerance to met? If anyone has experienced this and can shed any light on the situation I'd really appreciate it.
i can understand what you mean. I lost lots of weight (about 3 stone), when i started met. Then some came back on. So i had to lose it again . Can you have a word with your dr next visit??

i will tell you about the weight gaind on those 3 weeks maybe is muscle remember that muscle weights more than fat and you was doing weights and i had the same problem but i saw the difrence on my cloths so i just think that you just gaind muscle.
My dosage is 2000mg. During the summer I was running probably 45-60 minutes 5-6 days a week. When school started up again I started incorporating 45 minutes of weights 3times/week with running or some other form of cardio (ie: elliptical) 5-6 days a week. I realize I could be gaining muscle as well in the first few weeks, but my primary concern was that my periods have stopped again. I found before that when I was making a conscious effort to watch my carb intake and exercise they were pretty consistent every 2 months...and when I did not they weren't regular at all. My doctor wanted to wait and see how they progressed over the next couple of months and I'm to keep taking prometrium to induce them if they aren't happening every couple of months. She doesn't want to put me on the pill because it's not necessary in terms of birth control right now and it can cause weight gain and the metformin was doing the job on its own.
I just really don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I've tried everything.
