Question Starting weight/met dose/side effects/regulate AFs?

I am surprised that I seem to be having some mild side effects at only 500 mg ... more frequent p**p and tired a lot. I weigh 225, so I figured I'd need to be on a much higher dosage to see any side effects.

I was just wondering what you weighed when you started on Met? What was the dose? What dose did you start to experience side effects? DId it regulate your period? Bring on ovulation? Other desirable outcome?

Thanks,
Kristy

I was about 195 when I started on the Met. I was on 500 for a week, 1000 for a week and 1500 for good. I had some mild side effects at 500 and 1000 (similar to what you described), but it took me a few days to adjust to 1500. I also learned to never have restaurant salad! For me, the Met regulated my period and started ovulation right away. I also lost about 10 pounds until I broke my foot and couldn't exercise for awhile. I wouldn't say that it's your weight that causes you to feel the side effects. It's more likely what you eat and how your body just happens to react to the medicine.

I weighed about 225 when I started met. The side effects for me were bad at first but I am learning what to eat and what to avoid. Definetly read those threads, they help a lot. And AMEN to avoiding restraunt salads. I am having my first un induced period in years so for me its working. I hope it works for you too

I just started Met on Monday & already agree on the no resturant salad thing...I wonder what it is? Maybe a preservative on the lettuce? I am currently at 235 - have gained the last 10 since going off BCP about 2 months ago. Starting back on South Beach & regular exercise routine & hope to see good results. I going to buy B12 vitamins tomorrow, due to posts that suggest it to reduce hair loss.

Good questions. I had the same ones when I started taking Met very recently. I did a week at 500mg XR (1x500 taken with dinner) with little or no side effects, and started on 1000mg XR (2x500 taken with dinner) last Friday. So far so good. I'm a little nervous about bumping up to 1500mg XR (3x500 taken at dinner) this Friday, but if the rest of this week goes smoothly then I will. My in-laws are coming this weekend for a week (what timing!) and I'm not sure I want to share my details (PCOS, IF, TTC) with them if you know what I mean. :-) It's going to be rough if I have bathroom issues with them around!

I had an induced AF prior to starting Met -- doc (actually nurse!) recommended waiting until finishing the prometrium to start Met since prometrium can have side effects too. She didn't want to see a double whammy I guess. I'm hoping Met regulates me, but it's too soon to say if it has helped in that area.

I also started SB abouta week prior to starting Met. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not, but lots of folks (and threads) mention avoiding fats and carbs to minimize Met side effects. As I understand it, Met is trying to regulate insulin and so does SBD, so I figured go for it.

In summary, too soon to tell about AF/ovulation, happily mild/few/no? side effects to date, and plan to bump up to 1500mg XR this weekend. As a plus, losing weight (but also doing SB and started walking regularly). Good luck all!

I was about 275 when I started Met in November. I had lost ~25 lbs prior to that, but it took a very long time with diet. Since starting Met, I have lost ~35 lbs with no dieting whatsoever. In May, I found out I had skin cancer and had to have it removed. Since then I havent lost any more weight. Given, my eating since then has definetly gotten worse. But I also switched manufactuers and I think thats making a huge difference. I think I am going to go back to the old one, because I am also always sick.

I started with 500 mg the first week, then 1000 the next 2 weeks, then 1500 for about 4 weeks, then 2000 for several months. I take the ER formula and hated taking so many pills. I asked my doctor about switching to the 750 ER and only taking 3 a day, instead of 4 on the 500 mg. He agreed, so now I take 2250 a day.

I also started birth control a month after starting Met because I found out that my husband had cheated on me and under no circumstances did I want a child at that point. So I dont know if it would have regulated my period or not. My doctor never checked to see if it was making me ovulate either. I am guessing because I am not TTC.

Hi!

I've been on 500 mg Met Since July 26. So far, I've lost 8 pounds (watching my diet and exercising 30 min 7 days a week) and today my fertility monitor said I ovulated. YAY!!! Will be increasing to 1000 mg on Sept 6. My doctor wants me to up the dosage in a very slow manner.
