Default Starting Yasmin

I was prescribed Yasmin today. Alas, I can't start taking it for another three weeks, but I am still wondering what to expect. I am particularly concerned with issues relating to hair loss (it's been bad as of late), acne, depression (I've taken Zoloft for 4 years) and weight.

Any words of wisdom?

Hello, I've just started Yasmin today which I am really pleased about. I was on it a year ago for 7 months and it helped with acne and hair, and I managed to lose weight. Felt quite normal I think. At the time I was going through terrible troubles with my accommodation so I was so stressed and I thought Yasmin was making me depressed, but looking back I think it was my situation getting me down not my pill.

I'd advise you to give it at least 3 cycles, because that gives your body chance to settle, therefore if you have any undesireable effects after that, you know the pill isn't right for you.

I got a bit of cystic acne in my 2nd cycle, but that went and my skin was actually pretty clear compared to when on other pills or antibiotics.

Good luck with it. Try not to worry, just give it a go! xx

You may even want to give it more than 3 cycles. I'm in the middle of my 4th and my acne is just starting to calm down. It's so great. lol

Yes like I said, 3 cycles minimum, but in reality, for me, it can take about 5 or 6 until I know!

When I got some cystic acne I was horrified, it was worse than I had experienced, but I reckon it was going to come out at some point, since I have an area on my face (nice....) that always gets these cyst spots, and they always seem to be "there" under my skin, and come out when I have a bit even or photo opportunity! But they seemed to come up more before I went on Yasmin.

Hopefully this time round it'll be smoother in every sense!

xx

Ihave recently started taking Yasmine about 3 months ago. I was previously on ortho tricycline for 7 years. I thought I loved it until I switched to Yasmine. The first pack I started mid cycle instead of waiting for my period and I broke out so bad! So I quit and waited until next cycle. Wow the difference in my face!!! My complexion has never looked so good! I also have no side affects. On ortho I would get nausea and would have tot ake it at night but with yasmine I can take it anytime. But trust me your face will look better. If do do have an initial outbreak just stick with it trust me! My androgens are kinda high so the fact tht yasmine has an ingredient the is similar to aldosterone is what I think has helped me. Stick with it youll love it!

I took Yasmin for 5 years. I loved it! It was the only BCP I ever took that gave me somewhat normal periods. I had breakthrough bleeding on every other pill and usually would have my period from the first day of placebo pills through day 2-3 of the next cycle! Acne was not a problem while on it and I never had hair loss issues.

After stopping I only had my period twice in the course of a year. That is what brought me to the doc and a suspicion of PCOS as the culprit. I (we) are TTC. I will probably go back on Yasmin to induce AF for a few cycles before addressing my infertility. I will find out the results of my bazillion lab tests and ultrasound next week....

Does anyone know if there is a difference between Yasmin and Yaz????????

Personally, I don't know the difference, but check out some of the other threads. There are several comparing Yaz and Yasmin -- most of them seem to be pro-Yasmin, too.

Oh duh.......there was a thread just a couple down from this one....... Hee hee....it was more of an impulse question I thought of while responding to this post. From what I read it sounds like I will want to stick with Yasmin. I am prone to breakthrough bleeding and mega-periods on pills with low estrogen.

The difference is in the amount of oestrogen. Yasmin has 30mcg, and Yaz has 20mcg, so in theory I think Yasmin with its higher oestrogen should work slightly better for acne. They both have the same amount of drosperinone.

I'm already feeling better, I actually managed to sleep last night because I wasn't writhing in pain! And this morning I'm feeling a lot brighter..hope it continues!

xx

My DD just finished her first pack of Yasmin. She had no side affects at all while taking her first pack. She is now having a period. It seems to be very heavy. Is that because she was so irregular before starting them? And it will be better after a few cycles on Yasmin? I told her periods are much lighter on BCP and she is now looking at me like " Ya right Mom" LOL

I had a history of irregular, heavy periods before taking BCP and almost all pills I took over the course of 14 years did nothing to lighten things up. However, when I started Yasmin, AF was still heavy, but improved over the course of a few months to where I was having more "normal" 3-4 day bleeding. It takes time for your body to get used to it and adapt.

Yes when I hadn't had a period for about 7 months before being diagnosed, I went on Dianette and my periods were sooooo heavy and painful. Must after a few months they improved. Then tried Yasmin for first time and after that went back onto Marvelon, and by then I think all the excess had gone so they bvecame lighter and more normal!

If she's in pain or the flow is too heavy, get her doctor to give her Mefenamic Acid tablets, they decrease the blood loss/slow it down, and act as an anti-inflammatory painkiller which is stronger than your regular painkiller from a chemist.

xx

Thank you both your replies. Its day 3 and seems to be slowing a bit. She had gone about 9 months without a period before inducing one with Provera then beginning the Yasmin so I'm sure there is lots of build up.
I actually have some Mefenamic Acid that OB/GYN had given me so if she needs it I def will give her some. They really do work well. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Both my DD and myself appreciate it!
