Still to have ultrasound....but have a hair question
Hi
I recently went to a doctor because I have started losing my hair, althogh no patches have formed the hair is very thin in places and was worrying me.
I am going next week for the ultrasound so we will know more then, but he seems to think that I have PCOS.
From what I have read so far it would appear that there are treatments for the other symptoms I may have, but I have been unable to find out about the hair loss.
I would like to know if once hormones etc are back on track if the hair will grow back or if the loss is permanent. Crazy I know but this is one of the symptoms that is really bothering me.
Welcome to SC! This site is a great place for frienship and wonderful information
Have you had blood work done? Have you had your testosterone checked? If not, you should request that your DR order blood work (b/w) so that you can see what your hormone levels are at. That would be helful in determining whether or not something like spiro would work for you in reference to the hair loss. Just as an FYI, if you are trying to conceive (ttc), you may be limited in what you can take for hair loss, as an anti-testosterone medication won't be prescribed if you are ttc or are pg as it can cause serious birth defects.
Feel free to ask any additional questions, and I'm sorry you're dealing with PCOS! But, fortunately, there are many women here who have found ways to effectively deal with the symptoms, and we'll happily help you out.

Thanks to all who have responded to my post. I am not sure what the results are. My doctor has a problem speaking English so communication is a little difficult. What I was told is that one of my hormone levels is a little high, and because I am over weight, and because I have started to lose my hair he is'nt 100% sure but thinks I have PCOS. Am going next Wednesday for the ultrasound. Have been on the internet to read up on PCOS and have to say it is quite scary. Am trying to be positive, but it's not easy.
I found loosing my hair the scarest part, but within only a couple of days of being on medication it stopped falling out It still hasn't all grown in again but it's still early days for me.
Hope it goes well for you.

Keep in mind that you do not have to have cysts on your ovaries in order to have PCOS. It is a very misleading name. You can have cyst free ovaries, but messed up hormones and insulin. That is why blood work is so important.
