Arrow Still having Met side effects...

I've been taking 500 mg of Metformin for the past three weeks. I take it at night before I go to bed, someone on this board gave me this advice and that seems to work fine. I get occasional loose stools in the AM, but I can handle this. I tried taking another 500 mg with breakfast, but this was intestional disaster! (This is way too much information I know) I can't function like this being a massage therapist and having to run to the bathroom. Is this normal? Any other advice? Thanks!

What is your dose that you are supposed to be taking? 500mg or 1000mg total? I found I had to slowly work up. I take 500mg at night(no problems) then to get up to 500mg in the morning I take 250mg for about a week with my breakfast then I went up to 500mg.But I always eat with the met. I am a hairstylist so I know your dilema...

I am having the same problem. I didnt have any stomach problems with 1000 mg, but just increased to 1500 and i can not eat anything but sticky rice. Not even crackers! Constantly running to the bathroom and my tummy stays so swollen and hurts. its been a week on 1500 now but its driving me crazy. I wonder if I should start taking it at bedtime now that u mention that but I'm afraid it will cause probs sleeping because of the bathroom issue. i take 2 pills in the am with breakfast and 1 in the afternoon now and this is OBVIOUSLY NOT WORKING...I dont know what to do but I totally know what ur going thru!

When I was increasing, I tried doing the higher dose all at night for a week or so, and then switching half of it to the morning.

for example.....

week 1: 500mg at bedtime
week 2: 1000mg at bedtime
week 3: 500mg with breakfast and 500mg at bedtime

This way my body would get somewhat used to the higher doseage, before trying to add it in during the day......This worked okay for me until I got up to the 1500-2000mg range.....right now I'm just taking it all at night, I plan to try adding one in the morning soon.....I can take the bathroom issues.....I just can't stand the nausea!

I found that limiting carbs, especially sugar really helps keep the side effect to a minimum. Before I was on met er, I found that taking it in the evening was the best for me.

Yes! I've been on mine for about 8 months, and yes I was still having daily diarhea....but DH and I started WW a few weeks ago, and I can really tell on the days that are lower carb, I have nearly solid poo LOL.....DH wasn't as excited about it as I was

So I think the carbs are the key.

I only take 500 mg at night and I've been doing this for 4 weeks now. I tried taking another 500 mg in the morning. Not pleasant in the least...

I still have crazy side effects since I increased my dose after my pregnancy. Before I got pregnant I was on 2000... and my body could tolerate it... while pregnant, I dropped to 1000 and was on insulin... after the pregnancy, I stopped insulin and slowly increased back to 2000... I have diahrea a couple times a day... no matter what I eat... ugh...

I started taking 500mg once a day for 1 week. Then 500mg 2x a day for 1 week. Then 500mg 3x's a day from there on out. I could not get past the second week b/c I was so sick and became really nauseated and I felt like I had ate chalk after I took the meds. I had to stop
