Frustrated am I. I had an u/s today (hb 167!) and I asked the tech about my spotting. She said she could not see where it would be coming from.
My doctor said last week my cervix is still closed, so I am frankly puzzled. I haven't been having sex (what a long few weeks its been. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. ), lifting heavy objects or running or anything like that.
I think what really frustrated me about my tech today was how cold she seemed. When we saw the hb, I asked how fast and she told me and of course I said "thats good right" to which she responded "it is what it is. at this point we say neither good nor bad with anything. there is a yolk sac, an embryo, a hb. thats all we say. its up to fate now.".
Mmmmk, I can understand maybe for legal purposes having to be so matter of fact but still I would have liked a little more info!
So no idea why I am spotting (only when I wipe do I see it). Anyone else have unknown spotting?
I had a bleed called a subcorinick(sp) bleed during last prenancy and it was seen on the US. It was followed for weeks and all is well.Keep your heas up!

Sorry your technician was so cold. They probably don't say much to avoid freaking people out, or getting people's hopes up too much. But hey - you've got a yolk sac, an embryo and a heartbeat! And that's GREAT. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Once you see all of that, your chance of miscarriage goes down to 3%. After the 12 week it'll drop to 1%.
I'm so glad things are working out for you!
(If you see it when you wipe, you might be having bleeding in the vulvar area. That could mean a scrape, or an infection (but I think the doctor would have seen it) or even a mild outbreak of something like herpes. I'm glad your cervix is closed!)
U/S techs are not supposed to say anything because they are not qualified to read and interpret the u/s (a doctor must do that). I think they try and be extra careful when there are problems because they don't want to say something that will get them in trouble (or fired).

I had unknown spotting in my pregnancy when I was about as far along as you... they had no answer no idea why... I went ton the ER when it happened..
I had a simular experiance to you with the U/S tech...the day after the ER I went into the Dr, she did an U/S, told us nothing, only that there were 2 heartbeats...when I asked if they were good, he response was "at this point, we are really just making sure that there are still babies in there, nothing else" To which I rudely and shortly responded.... "OK....well I understand that this is your job, and it may be just another U/S to you, but these are MY babies, and I want to know if they are OK, get a DR to talk to me now...." The Dr still couldn't explain anything and I have scheduled every u/s after that with the other tech at the office... Some people just seem to have very little or no compastion...I understand leagly they cant say that everything is ok, but they can say the hearbeats are _____, for 7 weeks, that is right on track... at least that much... they should know enough to be able to tell you if the heartbeats are good and in the right range...

I know they cannot say good or bad, I would have just liked the comfort and reassurance.
As for the spotting, I know I do not have an STD or vaginal infection. One of my friends who is now 1 week beyond her due date had the same problem for weeks. They could never figure out where the spotting was coming from, so I am going to just stop worrying.
spotting in early pregnancy is totally normal. as long as you aren't cramping or bleeding heavily, everything is probably fine.
i had major cramping, spotting and clots and my baby is fine. just kicked me in fact To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
i wouldn't worry too much if the doctor isn't worried
as for the tech, she coiuld have been more understanding. i've had cold techs too.
i asked one to check my cervical length (had a D&C with my first miscarriage and am scared of IC) and she sighed deeply and complained but ended up doing it. techs are like doctors sometimes you get good ones and sometimes you get jerks. hope all is well.

The two ultrasounds my doctor did were far more informative than the one the u/s tech did. But like pp have said, that is probably because they are not qualified to inform you like a doctor would be.
4 weeks before I was to have the u/s with the tech my dr. informed me that she would be going over things pretty fast (it was the anatomy scan) and then we could ask him with our questions because he would be getting a report of it.
I wouldn't worry too much as long as everything is checking out fine. I know someone who bled her entire pregnancy and has 6 year old twins now. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I'm so thrilled for you! I've been following your posts, and I'm so happy to see a heart beat! Congrats.
I have spotting on and off too. It's just one of those thigns. There is nothing that can be done at this stage, and many miscarriages this early are severe chromonosal problems that can't be addressed anyway (barring low progestrone)
so, as I tell my DH...we are just along for the ride!

I have had a fair amount of spotting this pregnancy as well. During the first twelve weeks, spotting can happen while the placenta is forming. In fact, that is probably why it is happening with you. Or you could have a friable cervix which can cause spotting after a bm or really for no reason at all. If they can't see anything wrong with the placenta, then you are most likely ok and there is nothing wrong. Some women spot and doctors can't explain the reason why. Take care, lisa
