Yes, I know it's TMI, but I asked it...Do any of you have a not so pleasant smelling belly button? Mine sometimes has a weird discharge to it, so I got worried and did some research. Mayoclinic said it could be a symptom of an Umbilical Hernia...so I am seeing my doctor tomorrow. I hope he doesn't laugh...lol. I was just wondering if any of you had experienced this.

I've already lost my mind...if only the pounds would start going.
I know exactly what you're talking about! I have the same problem, its caused from showering/bathing and not drying your belly button properly.
After your done in the shower/bath, take a q-tip and clean your belly button. You can also use kleenex as well.
Make sure to do this everytime, as you can end up with an infection or a really sore belly button- trust me mine hurt so bad it was beat red!
Try this for about 1 week or more and see if it helps, if not then I would call your doctor. (just to save you a trip for your doctor to tell you the same thing as I did).
Good luck and I hope your belly button smells better soon .

I'm not a Dr. but it could also be yeast. Keeping it clean should help. You can also try antifugal creams (i.e. for athletes foot) and try putting it on the area. If it clears it up, this could be your culprit. If you are worried, go to the Dr, he will let you know.

LOL....I have the same problem and I am pretty sure it has to do with not drying it....because while I was preggo my belly button almost popped out it was right at the surface, and since it aired out pretty well it didnt smell at all but after having my son and my belly button became an innie again it started to smell again. It doesnt have a discharge but i now dry it every time.

I too have this issue! I never used to have it before when I was thin, so I attribute it to having more fat around it and the fat blocking air coming in to dry it out properly. So cleaning it out daily, like everyone here suggested, will probably do the trick!

I had this problem for a few months... oozed a discharge, it stunk. One evening I took my shirt off and notice a large dried ring around it. A friend told me it might be infected, and advised me to dry it really well after I shower, and then clean it with a cotton swap and rubbing alcohol. I did, and after a few days, it cleared right up and I haven't had an issue since. Bigger women tend to have issues like these since some parts don't get enough air and tend to be moist.

I have the same problem. I was getting beauty tips sent to my email and I think its almost like a yeast infection for the belly button. An anti-fungal should work but I haven't found one that might work better for the belly button.
I'm also sensitive to cheap metals and the button on jeans hits right there for me. When I get out of the shower, I put baby powder on my belly button. Works all day.
My mother says it's yeast. I get the same smell behind my earlobes especilly if I wear earrings. It's not like you can smell it if you stand near me but if I rub my finger back there and then smell my finger, it smells. Same with my belly button.
My brother actually used to always come up to me and go "Smell my finger" and I was a dope and I would always smell his finger. Smell first, question later. The belly button was just one of many stinky places he would put it.
Alcohol and a q-tip should clear it up - as should standard washing and careful drying - but really so long as you don't dig around in there and then smell your finger, it's not really a problem, LOL

I dont know if weight has to do with it, because I am a thin cyster and still had the problem.
Well for me, it has everything to do with weight. When I was thinner, it was never an issue. Now that my stomach has a lot more fat on it, it kinda hangs over my belly button which causes bacteria to get trapped and for the smell to arise.

I agree.
There's a very funny story I could tell about my hubby's stinky belly button from back when he was 155 pounds at his 6 foot, 1 inch height. He was terribly skinny in my opinion, but still had the issues with the belly button. Even though he's put on weight, he's still very lean and has issues with the belly button if not cleaned out often.
We both clean our buttons out in the shower with a Q tip and ocassionally pour a little peroxide in there. No problems since doing this.

I have that same issue with the ears, but the smell doesn't come from behind my ear, but right on the holes in my ears themselves whether in the front or back. It's not yeast, in my opinion, though, but from build up of stuff around the earrings.
You have to figure that crud (sweat, soap film, etc.) builds up in the tiny spaces between the earring and your ear or the earring back and your ear.
I never had the problem before I got my ears done in 2004. If I take my earrings out, clean my ears, and not wear them for a few days, the smell stays away and only comes back when I put the earrings in again.
I find the smell doesn't happen so much is I wear fishhook type earrings that don't attach closely the the flesh of my ear.
When that happens use peroxide to clean it out with. I've even laid on the bed and poured it in and let it set for a few. After a couple days it's all better
