Default Stomach Cramp/Gas Cramp

Second day of only 500mg met and I have terrible stomach/gas cramp (not sure which) and i can't stand up for too long without doubling over in pain. It helps when i lie down but I'm now into the third day and the pain is still here and i have to go back to college soon. Does anyone know how long it generally takes to pass or anything that can help?

Thanks

Hi, I have found that if you take Metformin during a meal it has less side effects.
Hope you get some relief.

No cramps but I found myself running to the toilet more often than before (3-5 times after a heavy meal) .. and the stools are totally watery .. is this normal?

I never had negative SE when I began taking the 500 mg of Met XR, but I have changed to 2000 mg of regular met in the last few weeks and it really wreaked havoc on my digestive system. Now I am fine. I do notice a wave of dizzyness if it has been too long since I have eaten. I have not lost any weight that I can tell since upping my dose. I was really hoping I would. Good luck!

Totally normal to have this in the beginning. It went away for me around 3 weeks. It was a tough 3 weeks though!!

When I initially started on Met, I had some very similar side effects. I think it was probably two weeks before they all subsided. In the mean time, get friendly with a bottle of Immodium (anti-diarrhea medication) and make sure what you eat isn't contributing to the problem. For me, I had to lay off the dairy and certain fruits/veggies. If you ever get bumped up on the Met, you will likely experience some of this again, though perhaps not to the same extent. I knew when I'd been given too high of a dosage when it just wouldn't go away. For me, 1500mg ended up working the best. Good luck - it does get better, and it DOES make a difference!
