Do any of you know what typically happens when you stop taking met? I had to stop taking it when we lost our health insurance and job and couldn't afford the prescription. I expected things to return to the way they were before (when I only ovulated MAYBE once per year). Since stopping the met, I've ovulated every month! Last month was cd 21, this month was cd18! Does that have anything to do with stopping the met? I suppose I'm just confused about why things are starting to even out with my cycles AFTER I stop taking my meds.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your health insurance. I get my metformin from Wal-Mart under the $4 generic drug plan. I'm not employed, have no health insurance, and I'm not married but I do manage the $4 I need to get it filled. I hope you can do the same!
Hi ladies! I am new to this met but not to pcos. kind of knew b/f dx. Been on metformin for going on 2 wks now. I was really inspired by a thread that is now closed but just wanted you guys to know that it can and will happen for us. Please reply to me and encourage me as I will you. My DH and I hope to be preggers b/f this yr ends. In the mean-time, stay positive. Will keep you updated. BTW on 1000 mg of metformin a day ( 500mg/morn, 500mg/evening).

If you really don't want to stop taking your meds you can get them from WalMart because it's on their $4 prescription list. I stopped taking my met and I gained the entire 40 lbs I lost plus 27 more. Unless you PCOS is gone you don't want to stop the met. I hope this info helps.
Or that you're in better health now, and you don't need it anymore?
I never took met, but was on flutamide for awhile and after my labs returned to normal via lifestyle changes, I didn't need flutamide anymore because I was in better health, and my androgens were low.
You might want to call a doctor, or at the very least talk with a pharmacist about stopping met cold turkey.

I had all the typical blood work done before going on met. I don't have IR at all, but my ob/gyn wanted me on met because it was "more natural than clomid". Like I said, the met didn't help my cycles much at all. Honestly, I didn't see much difference when I was on met than before. I did lose a little weight in the beginning, but only because I was too sick to eat much.
Anyway, since stopping met, I have had 2 "normal" cycles and am expecting ovulation anytime now on my 3rd. The only downside I've noticed to not taking met anymore has been the acne. It's like I'm going through puberty all over again! But I can handle that if my body is going to work like it's supposed to. I'm beginning to think that I shouldn't go back on met. Why mess up a good thing?
