Honestly, I felt fine when I came off TriCyclen to TTC. I was on it for 8 years; previously, I'd been on the Depo shots, and hated those. I stopped getting AF when I was on the Depo shots, and didn't get one again for a year after stopping them, when I took Provera to bring it on so I could start BCP.
I never had a normal cycle before I was on hormonal birth control, and didn't after, either. I quit in the middle of a pill pack, since I kept screwing up and forgetting to take them, anyway. My first AF came about the same time it would've if I was still on pills, and then about 45 days. But then it stopped altogether--bad when we were TTC!--and I didn't have one for about 6 months, until I started Met.
But I think I probably felt better off the pills than I did on--I didn't have the headaches that I did on the pills, and it didn't make an impact on my skin or anything like that. I am back on the Tricyclen right now, but I want to look into switching (though with my age and the fact that I've taken hormonal bc for so long, I should probably be looking into something else). To tell you the truth, I probably "quit" the BCP every cycle, because I hate the headaches and feeling crappy. But then--sigh--I realize that there's always the slight, slight possibility that I could get pg without medical intervention, and dh and I don't want another one right now, so I end up starting a new pack within a week or two.
Good luck!
